Publisher's summary

Alex Brandenburg: SEAL Chief Petty Officer and Outcasts Team Leader. Disobeyed direct orders by refusing to let a deadly terrorist live to kill another day. Francisco "Pancho" Rodriguez and John Landry: SEAL Petty Officers First Class. Took the pursuit of justice into their own hands with explosive results.

Catherine "Cat" Fares. Navy Petty Officer. Holds an unbeatable record for pissing off the top brass with her strongly stated opinions on the combat readiness of women.

The team’s mission: Take out the seven terror merchants vying to take Bin Laden’s place. The team’s status: Expendable.

When America’s controversial Phoenix Program was buried during the Vietnam War, a new program rose from its ashes. A top-secret Special Operations unit, with a core mission to combat terror wherever they find it, Bitter Ash grew ever more necessary in a new world of Islamic fanaticism. Now, Bitter Ash is forming a special team, a SEAL Team Six with a difference. It is Tier One, on par with SEAL Team Six and Delta, but it will report directly to Bitter Ash, and its fight will take place under the cover of dark.

With Bin Laden dead, the petty leaders within al Qaeda struggle to assume his role at the top. The president of the United States doesn’t want any of them left to dominate... and that means he has only one choice. But doing what’s needed without political repercussions will take a small team flying under the radar. A team capable of finessing the U.N.’s distinctions on national sovereignty and acts of war. A team like the Outcasts.

With no official support from their government and no one to rely on but themselves, the Outcasts must track down each target. Hot on the tail of the third, Brandenburg and the team start to realize that they are closing in on a larger plot, one that puts the security of the United States in dangerous jeopardy. The terrorists are threatening American territory once again, and the Outcasts will have to do what SEALs do best. Whatever it takes to keep their country safe.

Unsung Heroes

What did you love best about SEAL Team Six Outcasts?

The valor and honor of these seals, even if they are fiction or not. (Honestly, I couldn't tell and don't want to be part of the firestorm that is currently surrounding books like this.)

Who was your favorite character and why?

I liked Alex and Kat, but the other guys were just hilarious, even in the throroughs of a fire fight.

What about Phil Gigante’s performance did you like?

He's a great narrator. He differentiated his voice so it was easy to follow the story and who was talking.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Yes, on the train when the Seals stepped up to protect one that wasn't their own. Won't ruin it for you, but it made me proud to support the armed forces, knowing these were the types of people we have in the field.

Any additional comments?

Do yourself a favor and listen to this one with a vet. Not only will you appreciate them more but you'll understand why they reup for three, four, and five tours. Makes sense now, even if it breaks your heart later.

Getting Back Into SEAL Team Six

Would you listen to SEAL Team Six Outcasts again? Why?

Yes, SEAL Team Six Outcasts was another great listen. The SEALS amaze me. Their identity is the SEALS. I'm sure with a reread I'd pick up things that I had missed and I can never get enough of hearing and learning about the SEALS.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

The plot did keep me on the edge of my seat. The group of three men and one woman had six missions to complete while under black cover. Each member of the group had lost the privilege of remaining in SEAL Team Six because of a severe infraction. The book ran smoothly but with all of the thrill and action I couldn't wait to turn the next page. Their mission would not be acknowledged as having occurred. If the squad of SEALS did not complete their mission successfully, they would not be able to be readmitted to SEAL Team Six. If one or all of the participants were killed, no one would be made aware of the circumstance. They were on their own without any assistance from the US. They were provided with the tools to conduct the mission but on their own. A very exciting listen. The US flew them on a commercial flight to the site where their mission would begin but no transportation thereafter. They would told if and when extraction was needed, find it, don't call us.

What about Phil Gigante’s performance did you like?

Phil Gigante's performance was excellent. I've listened to him many times and he has the ability to read different genres with smooth narration. He puts himself into the character's and emulates their feelings of anger, fear, helplessness and so many more. If I l were to see him as the narrator of a book I would like to read, I wouldn't hesitate.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, I wanted to listen to this book all in one sitting. However, the next day when I had the time, I would grab the chance to listen to more of the book.

Any additional comments?

This book was fast paced, exciting, thrilling and is saying, Read Me. This book deals with SEALS with well seasoned experience. There is the point man, the most important and courageous position on the team and the man in the back who watches intently for anything behind to make sure his alertness, if necessary would save their lives. The leader and the woman were in the middle two spaces. The SEALS are a united and excellently trained for extremely dangerous missions. The book, SEAL Team Six Outcasts, exemplifies their cunning and skill with the excitement of completing their mission. They are brothers in and out of action. This group of SEALS were more than ready to go on alert and leave on the next plane out to be on another mission after returning from their black operation.

Ok, but too much sappy stuff

I love SEAL stories. But the romance between Kat and Alex just seemed too mushy and too distracting for me.
Not the worst I’ve listened to but I guess when I listen to a SEAL story, I don’t want the sappy romance stuff.

A Very Nice Surprise

I have had this book on my wish list for a while because the reviews were mixed but the story line was interesting. The other day I decided to go ahead and give the book a try and was pleasantly surprised. There is plenty of action. I like the characters and hope to follow them on more adventures. The story isn't as polished as some in this genera but that shouldn’t prevent you from getting wrapped up in the story and enjoying the book. I am looking forward to the next book.

Leave the woman out or have her contribute.

Military thrillers have become my favorite new genre, and this one had several solid components; but the female character was awful to the point of distraction. I considered returning the book repeatedly solely based on how they wrote her in (and the triple bear attack).

At the beginning of the book they make a big point about her cause being women allowed in combat, and then her sole contribution after that is disrupting the mission. She made the team leader run down the street for silk; at every stop she focused on shopping, dinner, and souvenirs; and worst of all, she was slamming doors and running off into alleys due to jealousy.

The leader wouldn't even let the guys on the team vent when they were upset, but she was allowed to be an emotional basketcase repeatedly.
Next time, leave the emotional and disruptive women out of the team (make her a secondary character with some other job) or write a woman that really is worthy.

Get rid of the romance

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Not really. The romance side of this book is a waste.

What do you think your next listen will be?

No idea.

What about Phil Gigante’s performance did you like?

Well spoken.

Could you see SEAL Team Six Outcasts being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

No.

Any additional comments?

Again, get rid of the romance.
