About this listen

Based on true events.

1942. The war at sea is being lost. One percent of all naval personnel are being referred to as psychiatric casualties. The British Admiralty introduces the Stone Frigate approach.

Three men fight for their country in the Arctic convoys of World War II, then for their sanity and dignity, labelled as cowards and subjected to experimental psychiatry at an isolated facility set up to by the British Admiralty to recycle men back into battle.

To the Navy, they are faulty parts, not constitutionally suited to operate at sea. To the public, they are poltroons, malingerers, and psychiatric cases.

The places in this story are real, but everyone who played a part in what happened is now dead. It is safe to tell what really happened. What was important then, nobody cares about now.

True courage is facing danger when you are afraid, surviving in the circus of war.

An Amazing Tale

Sailors Heart by Martin Campbell is an amazing story. The plot is centered around three fictional characters as they serve aboard ships during World War 2. This plot does very much mirror some real world events that took place during this time. All of the characters were extremely well written. The narrator Kenny Lindsay did a fantastic job telling the story. All in all I would recommend Sailor’s Heart to anyone who likes a good story.

Captivating!

A Sailor's Heart is an impressive story that is so detailed in facts and world-building that the reader feels like they're right there along the march. Three men from very different backgrounds experienced the horrors of war and the mental illnesses that resulted. Their journey toward insanity was difficult to read, but oh so enlightening. The experiments of the doctors, the assorted cases of torture and the sheer insanity of these men was a fascinating story. Kenny Lindsay has the perfect voice for this story and subject. As I said before, the characters were alive.

Wonderful story.

Well written novel which puts 3 fictional characters in the real history times of WWII naval ships from Western Europe.
The characters are well written into this novel as individuals as well as into a time of history which dealt with soldier fatigue which today we refer as PSTD.
Great narration by a Scottish gentleman which adds to the overall value of this tale.

Sailor's Heart

this was a well-written book. to be honest it wasn't my kind of book I usually listen too, so it did take me a while to get into it but once I did I couldn't stop, the narrator did a good job too
