About this listen

A critically acclaimed #1 New York Times bestseller with more than one million copies in print and a major motion picture! Gritty with pain, betrayal, and brutality, this incredible true story also shines with an unexpected, life-changing love.

Meet Denver, raised under plantation-style slavery in Louisiana until he escaped the “Man” in the 1960’s by hopping a train. Untrusting, uneducated, and violent, he spends 18 years on the streets of Dallas and Fort Worth.

Meet Ron Hall, a self-made millionaire in the world of high-priced deals—an international arts dealer who moves between upscale New York galleries and celebrities.

It seems unlikely that these two men would meet under normal circumstances, but when Deborah Hall, Ron's wife, meets Denver, she sees him through God's eyes of compassion. When Deborah is diagnosed with cancer, she charges Ron with the mission of helping Denver.

From this request, an extraordinary friendship forms between Denver and Ron, changing them both forever. A tale told in two unique voices, Same Kind of Different as Me weaves two completely different life experiences into one common journey. There is pain and laughter, doubt and tears, and in the end a triumphal story that readers will never forget.

Bonus material in this special movie edition includes:

fun read

great story. personally I don't believe in any gods or anything supernatural. so all the religious stuff is not something that I believe. But these experiences were not my experiences, so who am I to say it didn't happen. the story felt honest and sincere. I love how these people were able to live their truth and help the lives of so many others because of their beliefs. Very uplifting story with great lessons of how we should all treat each other.

Same kind of different as me

This is a book for those that need to see yourself in the mirror. For those that have not had an easy life and can relate to what you think is helping someone else when God can show you it was you he was helping.

Great book

I really loved this book and missed the characters so much when it was over. I went and watched the movie straight away. The book is better, but I had to watch the movie. It's a great experience to read the book first then watch the movie. They did a really good job of casting the characters. The narration of the book was great too. I loved the different voices for different characters.

Gods love works wonders

I loved it. The end has lots of tidbits about how the movie was produced which added more interest in the characters. I love true stories about how God works in peoples lives.

One of the best books I've read in a long time

I hardly ever cry when reading/listening to books but dang if this one had me in tears for an hour straight. It really opens your eyes to the plight of the homeless and how God, if given the chance, can make a difference in everyone's life whether that be a homeless person or a rich person or me. I am so blessed to have read this book and encourage you to give this book a chance. You won't regret it.
