About this listen

Templetons don't break down. Even when their world is falling apart. Eric Templeton's well-ordered life as a top CIA agent is shattered when a traitor within the agency plots to have him eliminated. Sent on a bogus mission to Africa, Eric is ambushed and critically wounded. A helicopter pilot flies him to a remote mission hospital where Dr. Brock Whitfield and his daughter, Ellie, work to save his life. If Eric survives, his life may never be the same, and he still has to deal with the traitor who wants him dead. Eric wants justice, but Brock and Ellie know that Eric's survival is the least of his worries. What he needs most is mercy and truth.

Wounded hero transformed by God's love

I loved this novel the first time in print and was curious to hear how it was rendered in audio to revisit these characters and story. This story blends and blurs genres particularly well - a little spy story, a little romance, a little medical drama, a little going to church, an overarching tale of redemption for both the main character and the two biggest men in his life (can't so more without spoilers) - weaving seamlessly from chapter to chapter in a captivating and memorable way for me. Especially because WOUNDED HEROES are my absolute favorite main characters. No question. Eric is that and then some which makes his trails and transformation even more endearing.
The cast of side characters really enhances the story for me - especially Toby and Roco, or "Rock" (not to be confused with Dwayne Johnson but equally memorable and unique in my mind).
The narrator did a good job for me on making the characters distinct, and I especially found his representations for Toby (once I got used to it), Moses, and General Templeton to be the best. After a few chapters and a few lines when new characters were introduced the narration did just want I wanted it to do - fade to the back so I notice the performance less and the story remains in the forefront. This is one I'll re-listen to again I'm sure.

Highly recommend this book!

Very good Christian fiction - my favorite genre! Deneve wove together a compelling story with interesting characters and just the right amount of details to help the reader envision the story. The narrator brought the story to life with his smooth voice and inflections/accents for the different characters. It's always beautiful to read new accounts of how God can move in people's lives to draw them to His love and saving grace.

Read the Book and NOW Living the Book

Wow! As I would listen to the book being read I would reflect back to the memory of reading it. The book is exciting but the audio is over the edge great. I am very busy but I would take a break from work and lay on the couch in my office and listen in as the story again unfolded. Get this book and get it now. Love it! Love it! Love it!

I enjoyed this first book in the series. The narrator reflected the characters beautifully and the story was a joy to listen to.

AMAZING!

I have to start by saying that I read the book 'Saving Eric' and loved it! When the audible version came out, I had to get it. But, like watching a movie after reading the book, I hoped the movie would live up to my expectations. I can say, the audible version exceeded them!!!! In the book, I had a mental picture of each of the characters. The narrator was brilliant! No overdone emotions or flat speaking. He was excellent in portraying the characters as I had seen them in my mind while I devoured the book.
The Christian theme of Joan Deneve's books are deep, principles walked out in almost impossible situations. They have left me thinking years later about the life of Christ lived in frail, broken human beings.
I couldn't recommend more.

Full On Hero Story

Templetons might not cry, but I’m not guaranteeing you won’t.
Saving Eric is such a great story with excellent pacing. Eric is a spy who discovers he’s been compromised after a tragic mission gone wrong.
Rescued at death’s door in an African clinic, Eric discovers Christ, a beautiful woman, and endearing doctor who change his life.
Faced with a daunting recovery and repairing his broken relationship with his father, Eric needs Ellie and Dr. Brock Whitfield and most importantly his new-found faith in Christ.
Eric is a swoon-worthy hero, and Ellie is adorable. Brock is a lovable, devout man. This book is full of delightful secondary characters who round out the cast and bring comic relief, especially Toby and Rocco.
The narrator is fantastic with the voices adding accents and inflections to make each person unique.
Anyone who enjoys a strong Christian message, adventure, and romance will love this book.
Note (for those with strong preferences): These characters are broken, and there’s tough subject matter, but past sins are not glorified. While not preachy, there’s no question this is a Christian book.

Poorly Written, Poorly Narrated

I took a chance on this book because another review gave it five stars. I could not make it through Chapter 4. Author needs to do a lot more research on weapons and tactics before writing a book like this. This is more of a Christian themed book, which is okay. However. I was unaware of this as the summary doesn’t portray the underlying theme of the book. The narrator needs to change voice inflections. Hard to follow characters when he’s using the same voice tone.
