Publisher's summary

In Lance K Ewing’s first novel, audiences were introduced to a cast of memorable characters spanning across three states.

In a post-apocalyptic world, where the rules have changed, Lance and his family, along with other survivors of the next-world, continue their struggle.

Each setback is grievously felt, and the clashes with military forces and desperate outlaws have drained them both physically and mentally.

But for Lance, he is left wondering how it will all end, as every day seems harder than the last. Can they reach the safety he promised everyone in one piece?

Plagued with injuries and losses, will his group make it to the halfway point of Raton Pass, New Mexico, while already enduring more than they imagined?

Vlad makes an unexpected trip to a FEMA camp without his consent, and Nancy is voted MVP of the first leg in the journey.

Is Mike misunderstood, or has Lance underestimated him once again?

David’s group will suffer a devastating loss, while Mel loses everything but gains more than he could ever hope.

Mac finds love and, in return, more drama than he can handle alone.

James is reluctantly voted mayor of Weston, Colorado, serving under a corrupt judge and sheriff with sinister plans.

Recap of volumes one and two in the Families First: Post-Apocalyptic Next-World series: We are introduced to a cast of characters spanning multiple locations across the United States, with each group having diverse points of view and hardships to overcome.

Volume three continues the story and is sure to engage listeners continuing the series.

The post-apocalyptic world has never been more dangerous.

As Lance and his bedraggled group of survivors trek wearily across a wasted American nation, fighting off bands of criminals that would take everything they own, they discover that the most serious threat is still before them.

Their numbers depleted at every stage, they now enter Raton Pass, New Mexico, a place where any semblance of rational thought or empathy for other human beings has long since ceased to exist.

There they encounter a man with a mind that has been ravaged by the religious fanaticism that has given so many the forlorn hope they now cling to, at the head of hundreds of followers who are ready to do anything to stop Lance and his group from going one step further.

As they decide how best to cope with the danger they now face, an unexpected ally comes to their aid, carrying news of what really happened when the lights went out across the nation. But will this new friend be enough to help the survivors in their hour of greatest need?

Second Wind is the third audiobook in the series.

When Are Books 4-7 Coming On Audible?

Mike comes into a full out starring role in this 3rd foray into the Families First world. Lance and Joy's more liberal views are changing as they realize just how violent this new atmosphere is where there is little to no chance of calling the police. However, in the town of Loveland, the corrupt Sheriff and Judge take advantage of the lack of oversight to boost their powerbase. Each situation is realistic to what could actually happen within different communities. The children are often endangered by the lack of follow-up on rules...ie "letting kids be kids" in a time where common decency and rules are no longer boundaries for those who barely respected them before. I understand, I had 3 children plus some foster kids. There were times when extra discipline was required...not as violence of any kind, simply that I required stricter discipline of myself. If I said I'd do something, I followed through immediately, so I had to be much more careful about what I said consequences would be. If I said "stay in this area" no matter what happened or who came to visit, I had to be diligent to watch that the designated area wasn't breached at all. Anyone heading for the border was immediately recalled and reminded about that border. That was actually harder on me, but the kids alternatively hated and respected my rules better and realized that their own behaviour and greater safety caused this need. That's what these parents will have to do. The kids need to have boundaries more clearly explained and there will need to be actual "shifts" for watch times over the kids. This diligence will reap HUGE benefits!! I started telling my kids that I won't always have "time" to explain, so if I said, "stop on a dime", they were to Freeze. We practiced, made a game of it. This literally saved my kids lives a few times. For example, once a car wash business had left an underground electrical box open that was on the regular sidewalk...water plus electricity=life threatening danger. "Stop on a dime" meant my son didn't step into a potentially life threatening emergency. Another time a car whipped around super fast as we were about to cross the street at the light. No one got hit because that step down onto the street didn't happen. Snakes didn't get disturbed on hikes in the summer. We also played the "describe the person" game practicing on each 1 looking for eye color, hair type and clothing, switching until every one could identify where they were and who they saw around them. These "games" didn't instill fear, but did increase their awareness exponentially. This is what needs to happen with parents during the Apocalypse.

Other than that, when are the next 4 going to be on Audible? I know there's up to book 7 already out. My husband and I like listening together 😊
