About this listen

After Ettie Smith's friend, Agatha, dies, Ettie is surprised to find that Agatha has left her a house. During building repairs, the body of an Amish man who disappeared 40 years earlier is discovered under the floorboards. When it comes to light that Agatha and the deceased man were once engaged to marry, the police declare Agatha as the murderer. Ettie sets out to prove otherwise. Soon, Ettie hears rumors of stolen diamonds, rival criminal gangs, and a supposed witness to the true murderer's confession. When Ettie discovers a key, she is certain it holds the answers she is looking for. Will the detective listen to Ettie's theories when he sees that the key belongs to a safe deposit box?

Wow! What a fun and twisted tale of a 40-year old death of an Amish man that everyone thought had just left during his Rumspringa, a time of freedom for young Amish, before their commitment to the Amish life. When Ettie Smith inherits her best friend, Agatha’s house after her death, she’s shocked to learn that there’s a corpse (a very OLD one) under the floor boards. The investigation that follows isn’t what one would expect coming from the close-knit Amish community. You’ve got to love Ettie, nosy and to the point, she’s going to dig until she gets answers, even when the authorities seem to drag their feet. Great tale and great resolution.

I have always enjoyed Samantha's books. This was the first to read one of her mystery stories, and was delighted. Readers will not be disappointed , the plot was good, and held your interest to the end. True to Amish way's she thought the best in a person, even though police thought other wise.
Secrets are held by even the Amish, and this will keep you wondering what they were. Well done, and will look for more Amish mysteries by Samantha. Given ARC audio for my voluntary review and my honest opinion.

I really tried to like this book, I couldn’t get into it from the start. The narrator was boring. The story just didn’t connect with me. I wish I’d have read it myself, I might have enjoyed it more. I’ve read other Amish cozy mystery books, and have absolutely loved them. This one was a big NO for me.
