The setting feels so real

This story pulled me in with its mix of family drama, secrets, and tension simmering beneath the surface. The setting feels so real, and I could really connect with Millie’s struggles between loyalty and keeping the peace. As the story unfolds, the weight of unspoken truths and past mistakes hits hard. If you enjoy emotional family sagas with a bit of mystery, this one is worth a listen.

set in another time!

I enjoy the descriptions of the farming, harvest, amongst the rest of the secrets in the cane. Seems "normal" and innocent at first. Keeps you wondering what's next!

I felt like I was there

This was a good story about rural life in the early 20th century. Just the descriptions of daily life made for a good book but then the added family trauma (I don't want to give too much away) gives a person a lot to think about. The author wrote from several different perspectives and the reader made those characters relatable.
All in all, I really enjoyed it.

Great Story

This is the second audiobook I’ve listened to by this author and I have loved them both. I really like the way the author combines real events and people with fictional elements by following a family and exploring how their past decisions and secrets shape subsequent generations.
