The setting feels so real
This story pulled me in with its mix of family drama, secrets, and tension simmering beneath the surface. The setting feels so real, and I could really connect with Millie’s struggles between loyalty and keeping the peace. As the story unfolds, the weight of unspoken truths and past mistakes hits hard. If you enjoy emotional family sagas with a bit of mystery, this one is worth a listen.

great
The story really digs into family dynamics, showing how things can get messy when different generations with different values and expectations try to live together. As tensions rise and tempers flare, the peaceful farm life they’ve imagined starts to unravel, and the characters are forced to face the truths they’ve been avoiding—both about each other and themselves. It’s a raw, emotional look at what happens when family bonds are tested.

Love James
A fun story, with some drama in it. I love James, one of my favorite characters here and in all fiction, really. One of the better books I've listened to in recent years!

Secrets, Family, and a Slow-Burning Mystery
I really enjoyed Secrets in the Cane. It starts off feeling warm and peaceful, but you can sense something bubbling underneath. As the story unfolds, things get tense, emotional, and honestly pretty heartbreaking. The family dynamics felt real, and the setting was so vivid, I could picture every scene. It’s one of those stories that lingers in your mind after it ends. If you like family dramas with a hint of mystery, definitely give this one a listen.

Simpler Times
I enjoyed listening to Secrets In The Cane. It was interesting to hear about a family in earlier American times struggle with similar issues that we struggle with today. The differences included the defined roles, subdued interactions and ability to depend upon each other and work as a team. The descriptions of the characters and plot made it easy to get into the story. Millie's character demonstrated both strenth and vulnerability. I admired how she dealth with the tough circumstances and her determination and intelligence shone through.

I love listening to fiction books
This story is surprising because it starts with a warm, cozy, and fresh family, but little by little the plot darkens and you get to see how James and Millie try their best to keep the harmony. It's a great story that has love, family issues, dysfunctionality, and more.
