About this listen

When Kate Standish begins the new school year, she has one goal: to pretend that the presence of her ex-husband doesn’t bother her. What she doesn’t expect is a new assignment or for that assignment to be mentoring struggling students. Absorbed in her own loss, Kate resents having to deal with kids who are deliberately failing...until she realizes that their failure may be a symptom of bigger problems.

As the school year unfolds, Kate embarks on a mission to save these kids, not realizing that she herself may need to be saved.

Serenity

We’ve all had that one teacher who made an impact on our life. Kate is one of those teachers. When she takes on the task of teaching the Advocacy class, she makes a difference in the lives of each and every one of her students... and they also make a difference in her life.

M.L. Hamilton writes about real life situations and expresses them with such emotion. Her characters are real and their feelings are palpable.

Kelley Hazen obviously put her all into this narration. Each character has a distinct voice and their personalities come through loud and clear.

Serenity!

Serenity by M.L. Hamilton pulled me in to this listen immediately. The storyline is original and interesting. I loved the main character in this book and how she tried to make a difference for her students. There were some very poignant issues that she had to deal with, and the author wrote those scenes with compassion and understanding. Kelley Hazen was incredible performing this book. I could hear exactly which character was speaking. She really put her heart and soul in this listen. The emotions were so realistic. I highly recommend this book!

Teacher’s Life

I really enjoyed this book and several more by the author as she writes with real characters that are not always perfect. In this book teacher Kate is struggling after a 10 yr. marriage with her own life gets assigned to experimental class called Advocacy Class where students are failing. Both the teacher and students really teach each other about change. Love Paisley the dog who also helps Kate. Recommend the story of teacher and students struggles and how they overcome them at times sad other good with great narration. An Awesome Listen

I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the narrator and found it thought provoking. A new school year, and a new start, maybe, at least that's what Kate is hoping. First day of school, Kate is given a new experimental class, though she'd doesn't want it, she can't say no. It's an emotional story filled with joy, grief, sadness and hope. Though Kate doesn't want to deal with these special students, the class becomes very important to her as she teaches them and learns from them. The author has a special talent to create characters and stories that feel real and the narrator always brings every story to life.

Great Read

Serenity was a great book by M.L. Hamilton. Kate starts the new school year as a tenyeared teacher. She is hoping to pretend that the presence of her ex-husband and his new wife doesn't bother her. She is given a new class of students who are struggling. She starts to resent her new classroom until she realizes why they're failing. She decides to go on a mission to save the kids while also saving herself. I loved reading this book by M.L. Hamilton and can't wait to read more by the author. Kelley Hazen did a great job of narrating the characters.

Not my cup of tea.

Was a bit depressing and slow paced for my tastes. However Kelley Hazen does a great job as always. ML Hamilton is one of my favorite writers but I prefer the mystery types.
