About this listen

Passion, wealth, and murder come together in this unpauseable thriller from the New York Times best-selling “queen of romantic suspense” (Booklist) Linda Howard.

Roanna Davenport grew up a wealthy orphan on her grandmother’s magnificent estate, Davencourt. There, she wanted for nothing - except to be loved by her cousin Webb. When he marries another, Roanna is devastated, but life at Davencourt takes an even darker turn when Webb’s new wife is found bludgeoned to death.

After the shocking murder, Webb leaves for Arizona, abandoning the privileged life that he had once believed was all he wanted. Years later, a grown-up Roanna walks back into his life to bring him home. He’s shocked that the mischievous sprite he had known in childhood has disappeared. Gone, too, is her passionate fire; in its place is ice that melted at his touch, but Webb can’t help but be drawn back to Davencourt, to Roanna, and to the killer who once destroyed his life and waits only for the chance to finish the job.

With Linda Howard’s signature “fast-paced, intricately detailed romantic suspense” (Fresh Fiction), Shades of Twilight will keep you riveted until the last minute.

The story was good. The twist at the end took me by surprise. I couldn't really get over the fact that Webb & Jessie were cousins, and Webb & Roanna too, that was a little strange but overall a good read/listen. Natalie Ross always delivers!

Love Linda Howard

I think this was a free audible book recommendation and I admit I'm pretty happy I didn't waste any of my money on it. The writing is good, even the story is okay, but I wasn't expecting a soft porn book. Nothing wrong with this genre of books just not what I'm into. If I was interested in this genre, I'm sure I'd be saying what a great book it is, due to the writing and story line. The story and characters had me listening to the end, but I can't say I'd be purchasing any of Ms. Howard's book.

Thought it was a mystery, but got a spicy novel

Amazing story. I love when you dont see the end coming. Will listen to again and again.

Never saw it coming

The story was good. Unfortunately I almost couldn't get through it due to sooooo much rehashing of sex scene. Just not for me so tried to skip over them. A lot!

Sex scene and repeated iterations

The story was weak, characters underdeveloped, sex scenes very harlequin romance-Esk. One of the weaker books I’ve read lately.

Bad development of characters and story was implausible

WOW, the love is life long and intense! The narrator makes it even more so! Loved this book!

Yuck
I keep trying to like Linda Howard’s books, but I am always disappointed. Dang.

Explicit sex mystery

This book was just ok. The Plot sounded vaguely familiar. Anyway, I finished it but it was not a "I couldn't put the book down type of book. " the narration was not bad.

It's ok

I have to admit... I almost couldn't finish this one. I get that part of the main plot line tied into the incest, but, for me, there were several boundaries that were crossed in this story that made it less enjoyable a listen. It's my first exposure to this author. I have a few of her audio books downloaded, but I'm hesitant to start another one. The story line itself was intriguing enough to make me finish it, and the narration was very well delivered. There was one spot specifically, where the Grandmother is giving a very heartfelt bit of dialog that actually made my heart squeeze a bit.

Overall, there was a little too much love in one family, and much of it was a bit borderline pedophilia, for my personal taste. That was, honestly, my biggest complaint. Yes, I finished it, but probably only because I had a LONG drive and had already paid for the book anyway.

Still not sure about this one...

The story and narrator kept me interested but I found there to be too much repetition into a scene.
