Shattered Sanctuary is an attention snatching first book in a new series by Nancy Mehl. The newly introduced Erin is an interesting character and it was fun to hear from Kaely again.

There is a good balance in learning Erin's past, the suspense of ghost stories about their cabin, and the mystery of the serial killer that strikes as they are in town.

I appreciated a couple other aspects. The story flows at a good pace and is hard to pause. I really like the up close view of what witnessing to a lost but loved friend is like. That journey is rarely portrayed this clearly in Christian fiction.

Lastly, the mystery of the killer's identity had me flip-flopping suspects to the very end. I am already looking forward to book 2!

Good mystery

Narration was good. The story and the characters were good. I was just surprised it ended as quickly as it did. I was expecting more interaction with suspect but everything resolved fairly quickly once they had a list of suspects. It felt a bit rushed. I also thought there would be more interaction with two main characters, giving FMC more reason to stick around. Overall an enjoyable story, 4-4.5 stars.
