Publisher's summary

Mercy Brennan followed in her father's footsteps in a law enforcement career, but she has no interest in any other connection to him. A US Marshal in St. Louis, Missouri, she's assigned to a joint task force with the St. Louis PD that puts her back into contact with her father and in the sights of St. Louis's most powerful gang.

When the gang has reason to believe Mercy has possession of some highly sensitive and incriminating information, her boss assigns Mark St. Laurent - a Deputy US Marshal and Mercy's ex-boyfriend - to get her out of town until they can guarantee her safety.

Initially unaware of the danger she's in and uncomfortable working with Mark, Mercy's frustration escalates when she discovers the extent her boss and Mark have been keeping her in the dark. It isn't until a freak ice storm hits, stranding them at a remote location and out of contact with the district office, that the full severity of their situation becomes clear. As the storm worsens, the forces of nature combine with a deadly enemy closing in to put their lives at imminent risk. Can they survive long enough for help to arrive - if help is even coming at all?

God

I love this book. It had the drama and the action... but most importantly it had God in it and it made it that much more special to read! Nancy is a wonderful writer and I love her books!

Saving Mercy

As a US Marshal Mercy Brennan is used to finding herself in the line of fire when protecting witnesses. But when her father is killed she finds that she is the one in need of protection.

A deadly cartel teams up with St. Louis's most powerful gang to retrieve a flash drive they think she has in her possession. Her boss assigns Deputy US Marshal Mark St. Lauren, her ex-boyfriend along with her best friend with the task of getting her to safety.

The task of guarding her is complicated by secrets and lies, unresolved feelings, a mole in the Marshals and a freak ice storm stranding them at a remote location.

As the storm worsens and a deadly enemy closes it may take an act of god to save Mercy.

I enjoyed listening to this romantic suspense for free with Audible Escape. My only complaint would be that imo there was a bit to much God in the book. Fortunately it did not detract from the interesting characters and exciting plot.

The narration made this bearable

The story started out interesting with marshals, cops, gangs and the idea of a plot. It descended into a preachy, jesus saves book. I was so disappointed that, spoiler alert,
.
.
.
all she needed to do was pray and God kills the bad guys. Ugh. Not to my liking. Also, not a hint of romance to be found. 2 stars because there were hints of a good story in there.

decent (though very fantastical/not realistic)

The accents were supposed to be Spanish accents--the reader turned all the accents into Russian accents, which she is actually good at. But...very much not good when she reads things saying "in his thick Spanish accent" and proceeds with a very thick Russian accent. As a Spanish speaker who has spent years in Spanish speaking countries this just about made me quit listening....

about 1/4-1/2 of the book uses this accent...so, be warned!

Predictable story, annoying performance

I love most of Nancy Mehl’s books, but this one is trite. The performance was annoying - the Hispanic characters had Italian accents. Some of the voices were very whiny.
