About this listen

The New York Times bestselling author of The Lost Fleet series returns to the epic space saga of a rebellion against a totalitarian regime, and the determination of two people to create a better future in the farthest reaches of the colonized galaxy …

The Syndicate Worlds continues to splinter as more star systems pledge allegiance to President Gwen Iceni’s and General Artur Drakon’s new government at Midway. But the rebels fleeing the toxic legacy of Syndicate rule have difficulty trusting one another and believing their new leaders’ promises of freedom from tyranny.

Before Iceni and Drakon can put their house in order, they must deal with another threat. An enigma warship has appeared and vanished near a Syndic colony. If the aliens are capable of jumping into other human-occupied star systems, then billions of people could be vulnerable to a hostile invasion fleet anywhere it chooses to strike.

But an even greater liability lies with Iceni and Drakon as a once-trusted adviser turned saboteur plans revenge.

A good story

Story was okay and it brought a few things to closure while leaving many other things open. I felt the ending was a bit rushed and would have liked to have seen it carry over into a fifth book before coming to its inclusion. We get to see President Iceni and General Dracon continue to expand their sphere of influence by encouraging others to help. Reminds me of how the alliance was formed in the prequel books for this series. We will see what the author does in the next book in the series.

Entertaining Conclusion for the Series

Generally entertaining conclusion or resting point for Gwen Iceni and Artur Drakon and others in the Midway star system. Adversarial action from the Syndicate Worlds, the Enigma race as well as a colorful space pirate provide cliffhanger action for Midway officers and fleet. Intrigues and conflicts among Malin, Morgan and Togo are resolved. Predictably and true to plot lines in The Lost Fleet series, sustained true love between honorable and dedicated leaders progresses to a wedding (in this case, one that is explosively climactic).

Lost Stars

The Lost Stars series ties The Lost Fleet Beyond the Frontier and The Lost Fleet Outlands together perfectly. But Shattered Spear is the crown jewel of the series

Excellent

Great action packed latest installment & end of a story arc. Narrator does a very credible job & appreciate consistency of keeping same narrator throughout.

Can't wait for the next series to continue the story of this planet & it's leaders, the finding & raising of thhe General's daughter by Morgan. The relations of neighboring planets & the problems faced by the Inigma, etc.

There's so many places for the series to expand into. Dealing with the neighbors & Aliens & finding of the child could be another trilogy. Then at least another or more for the raising of the child. Of course there's the potential for more children, which would lead to possible sibling rivalry... the possibilities are endless & can't wait to see where this goes!

Amazing conclusion!

This book was an amazing “possible” conclusion to the Lost Stars spin-off series! I hold out hope that there may be future books still to come or at least that the ongoing parent series continues to reference the excellent cast of characters that were created. Bravo!

Another excellent volume in the series.

This spin off series has improved with each book and this volume is no exception. I'm looking forwards to the next one.
