About this listen
The director threw himself into a seat in the front row of the theater before hollering, "Start at the beginning of the play!"
That's when the magic happened.
The thick, red curtains swept apart, and, suddenly, we were looking at 221B Baker Street! It was just as I'd imagined it: there were two chairs in front of a fireplace, a skull sitting on the mantelpiece next to a stack of letters that had been stabbed into the wood with a knife. There was even a violin sitting on one of the chairs. And then, Sherlock Holmes, The Great Detective himself, came onstage, wearing a swirling cape and deerstalker hat! Beside me, Sherlock's eyes widened. "Watson, do you know what this means?" he whispered.
"No," I whispered back. "What?"
"It means," Sherlock gasped, "that Sherlock Holmes is real!"
And once again, the game was afoot!

Story
What's behind a series of mysterious deaths among the favourite concubines of Sultan of Turkey, Abdul Hamid II? Suspecting a plot against himself, the Sultan has called on Sherlock Holmes to investigate. However, as a man, the detective is clearly unable to penetrate the exotic enclosed world of the harem, so he reluctantly enlists the help of his landlady, Mrs Hudson. Together with Dr Watson, they travel across Europe by Orient Express to Constantinople, on the way encountering Holmes's old enemy, Baron Mauterpuis.

Story
More parodies have been written targeting Sherlock Holmes than anyone else dead or alive, fictional or real. James M. Barrie, the author of Peter Pan, started it all back in the early 1890's and Sherlockian parody has been coming out regularly ever since, right into the age of the internet. While Sherlock's creator Sir Arthur Conan Doyle lived, close to 400 appeared in Britain and America.

Lestrade panted, getting to his feet as the gang of Cheathams fell back. “Right now I can think of worse things than rescue by an amateur detective.” “My dear Lestrade, we're simply ensuring the fight is fair.” Sherlock Holmes somehow dissuaded the truth of that by the way his lips were coiling up at the edges (without letting go of the pipe in his teeth). Perhaps it was because he was clearly in disguise as a seedy deckhand in Dutchman's sailing clothes.

Swearlot Holmes of 221b is for bastard Baker Street, London. Thrill to excerpts and illustrations from many of his most curious cases such as 'The Adventure Of The Sussex Swearwolf' and 'A Foul -Mouthed Cow In Belgravia'. In these dark, surreal and expletive-ridden examples, Swearlot proves not only is he a master of deduction, but a loquaciously lewd legend to boot. Each story is inspired by the original Strand magazine sketches.

It had plenty of gold, a king with the finest moustache you could possibly imagine, and butchers, bakers, and cheesemongers whose exquisite foods made a person dance with delight when they ate them. A fun mystery story with detective cats!
Sherlock Cat and the Thwarted Thespian by Heather Edwards is a children’s book and wonderful introduction to my favorite genre. My elementary (no pun intended) age grandson and I listened to this book. We both enjoyed it very much although we laughed at different things. He liked the parts with the dumpster and swinging from the cat walk. I enjoyed the Holmes similarities and clever references throughout. I particularly liked the names of Sherlock Cat’s 3 mice toys. This book and the wonderful narration succeeded in sparking an interest in mystery books in my grandson! Michael Langan always performs so magnificently that the book and characters come to life. I hope there will be more in this series for young people and their young-at-heart adults. I received a free audiobook code for my honest review.
