Surprisingly Good

I say 'surprisingly' because I usually have no interest in all things western, including film and television. But, I thought I'd give a new genre a go, and decided to listen to this. It's a bit better than other fiction stories I've listened to as of late, both as a story, and with the narration. The characters were interesting, and the writing was decent.

I'll be looking out for both the writer and the narrator.

An enjoyable, simplistic adventure.

Showdown in Santa Fe was like watching an excellent B movie. It was simple and predictable, but it was also engaging and well-crafted.

This story follows the bounty hunters Burt and Shade as they rid the wild west of outlaws and bandits. I came to appreciate these characters after only a few chapters (this 3.5 hour book has 53 chapters!). Mick Beacham does a great job describing the attitudes and convictions of these men. They were both relateable and they had substance. The other characters that made an appearance were well-written and unique. The dialogue was mostly excellent; it truly felt like these characters were having real conversations. And some of the interactions were very amusing, as characters fought against their better judgement.

The story was simplistic. The bounty hunters were tasked with taking on a gang of outlaws, and the adventure played out about as I expected. Nevertheless, I enjoyed every minute. And Cynthia Hemminger did a good job narrating the story. Although, I suspect that this story would've been better told through a male narrator. Some of my favorite narrators are female, but I expect stories with a primarily male cast to be narrated likewise.

Overall, I enjoyed Beacham's wild west tale. I'm excited to join him on his next adventure.

Fun listen

Fun book to listen to, narration was a bit off at first but when I got into the story I stopped noticing it. The romance dialogue was a bit cringey too but I think it was meant to be that way. All in all I enjoyed it

It grabbed my attention from the start

Great book, interesting read (listen), great story, realistic, fun, covered all aspects of "the Western life"; it read more like a real-life journal entry rather than a work of fiction...beautifully done! Well done Mick Beacham! The Narrator was very nice also; not to discredit her at all but she sounded a tiny bit robotic at times (it made me think, "Is this a computer?"), but it was actually really nice to listen to a Western Book being read by a lady and she did superbly with all the parts and characters; I especially loved her dialogues of Burt and Leanne and Lei-Wei, the China man...Well done! I enjoyed this entire book! I am sold on Mick Beacham!

Great Narrator

you don't often hear women narrating westerns, but Cynthia nailed this one! Story could use one more round of editing before it hit the market, but it was definitely interesting!

Really good story!

I enjoyed listening to story and was pleased. I had it on while commuting back and forth to work and ended up finishing it off that night. It was an original story and I can tell the writer really enjoys the western genre. I'm looking forward to some more.
