About this listen

Security chief for a private airport sounded like the perfect job for Ross Coe. Washed-out fighter pilot at 24, retired military cop at 30, and private investigator at 40, he has a chance to begin again on the home airfield he left 20 years before. His antique airplane is without wings, his family home is torched by persons unknown, and he is forced to live in a barn converted to an airplane hangar with two cats without names.

At the Wilson Airpark, crimes begin on the ground and take off into the wild blue Alberta sky. Ross’ task is to put together a security team that can protect the lives, homes, and property of the wealthy members of the exclusive airpark. He has three months to prove himself and find out who fired shots during a runway incursion months before. But the job takes a murderous turn even before it begins. Then, the woman who rejected him in another life shows up. Things start to get complicated.

Hip Deep in Mystery and Danger

Ross Coe’s new job is as a private investigator. His retiring from both the military police and as a fighter pilot, Coe has sought new avenues. Hired to provide security at a private airport, Ross returns to his hometown to live. Hired to protect the Wilson Airpark and its residents, Ross investigates shots fired at the airport and his family home being torched. Ross finds himself hip deep in mystery, crime, and murder!

The author, Barry D. Freeman delivers a well-written mystery that is detailed and slow-paced to enhance the story, characters, and plot twists. The dialogue as well as the characters are realistic. Freeman researched information on planes and airports thus providing accurate situations. Freeman builds a strong connection between his characters and his listeners through the story and plot twists.

As the narrator, Barry Freeman did an okay job. He repeated sentences and his pauses were not well-paced. His voice was pleasant to hear as he read the story. I think he has good potential to be an exceptional narrator after practicing and perfecting his delivery and narration style.

This is an engaging story with interesting characters. The start with each new chapter has the sound of an airplane followed by the announcement of the new chapter. This was well done. If you enjoy mysteries, murder, and airplanes you will enjoy this story.

While there needs to be some tweaking, there were no serious issues with the quality or production of this audiobook.
