About this listen

Stella was born to sing. Someday Broadway. But everything changes when a tragic accident renders her deaf; she cannot hear, much less sing. Trapped in a strange new world of total silence, she must face not only the loss of her friends, her hopes, and her voice but also the loss of her identity and her life's purpose. Who is she if she's not a singer?

Hayden is a quiet loner, an outcast, and the only person Stella can communicate with; his profound stutter makes him speak so slowly, she is able to easily read his lips. As they find new ways to communicate despite their disabilities, their friendship grows into an unexpected - but welcome - romance. But is it a romance that can last if Stella regains her hearing and resumes her former life?

Alternating between Stella's and Hayden's points of view, Silence is a lyrical story of self-discovery, romance, and resilience, of two souls learning how to find their voices and break through the silence.

Wonderful teenage characters....

Where does Silence rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Story best.....like any great novelist....the story is the truth Ms. Lytton really understood her characters....I cried...

What was one of the most memorable moments of Silence?

When the girl talked about her relationship with God, her parents, and her deep understanding of Hayden's life...Stella is a remarkable woman....young but not to young.

Which character – as performed by Rebecca Gibel and Charlie Thurston – was your favorite?

All were fine...voices seemed a little old for the teenagers...of today.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Yes.......when Stella describes silence....she is wise beyond her years but she and Hayden will be together forever.....

Any additional comments?

Loved they way the book went back and forth.....I really understood the story and character development.

Excellent story

I almost returned the book after listening a short time because the female narrator is not the best choice. I’m glad I didn’t give up because this is an excellent story; beautifully written!

Interesting premise

This book has too many words. It was descriptive to the point of boring. The presentation of two white students surrounded by whiteness at school/work/family limited the reality of the story in todays world
. I liked the premise of two young people dealing with true life challenges together.

Not for me but maybe you will like it

I really never felt like the story took off. I kept waiting for something to happen. There were a lot of story points that they could’ve gone into more but they didn’t. Plus the narrator sounded like a robot. Give it a shot but it wasn’t my cup of tea.
