Fascinating look at deaf culture

I enjoyed the author's exploration of deafness as seen thru the eyes of the main character. Tessa is also Native American, providing a sensitive look at a variety of different customs. The nasal quality of the narrator's voice was a bit distracting.

First contact story like I've never seen before.

Normally when I read first contact stories they always result in war and and interstellar conflict, this story is not that. Much like the previous book starbridge, which I would highly recommend though it's not necessarily needed to understand the story, this book is about peaceful intercooperation and communication between alien species.

This is a welcomed and optimistic view of what human space exploration could be, much like that of Star Trek. the story is told from the perspective of a woman who is of native American ancestry giving a very interesting, and from my experience often unseen, perspective on first contact stories. I highly recommend this story for anyone that one's the first contact story but it's tired of space Marines and battleships.

A complex Story of a frustratingly 'contrary' girl

This was a well thought out mystery of who was attacking an intelligent alien species and why all while chronicling the journey of self-discovery of the young contrary women.

Great story!

I loved the first book, and I equally loved this one. Great narration, great story line, and memorable characters.

MUST READ

This is one of the best books I have had the pleasure to enjoy. I read it as a free read from the Audible plus selections. Just finished it and I am going to buy it so in a year or two I can enjoy it all over again. This one is different from the formula books there are so many of. Well I am off to listen to book 3 of this series. If it is as good as the first two then I may end up buying the whole series.

This version falls far below expectation

I adore this series, have searched out paperback copies for years as I've read them to pieces. I looked forward to listening to the series while driving for work... But I'm having difficulty listening to the ridiculous accents the narrator gives characters of different nationalities as well as the numerous mispronunciations of common words. In this book, Jib, a Maori youth who mostly signs with the main character, is barely understandable with the mock kiwi accent she attempts. The accents given to other characters are similarly cringeworthy, but more understandable.

Plot became trash

The plot of the prior book was pretty good, this book has trash for a plot. It is really sad to see how bad it became. After a third of the book I couldn't stand any more, had to delete. No redeeming factors. PC garbage
