About this listen

The crew of the Desiree was unprepared. The Simiu were unexpected...Earth's first contact with an alien race turns to disaster when a friendly encounter erupts into inexplicable violence and the threat of interstellar war. But two ordinary individuals - Mahree Burroughs, an ordinary woman with a gift for friendship, and Dhurrrkk', a male Simiu with boundless curiosity - have forged a bond of understanding that bridges their many differences. Along with a reluctant Robert Gable, brilliant young ship's physician, they make an astounding journey across the stars, to seek a way to save the future of both species!

What was so-so - a slow start at the beginning while getting to know the characters.
What I loved - As the story picks up, the scenes are decently set, the characters really fill out, and the story line takes some twists and turns. I came to be invested in the characters and the star trek like progress of the story enough I want to continue.
What I hated - the gratuitous inclusion of a poorly written sex scene. When I see this in a sci-fi book it always seems to me they include it simply to try to make more sales, even though the story is doing just fine on it's own, and the inclusion is uneeded to move the story along. If I wanted to listen to poorly written sex encounters I would buy a romance novel.

I will try the next one

It feels like this book was written by a 13 year old girl. I almost expected it to end with the main character becoming empress of the universe because all the other aliens love her sooooo much 😂 Not sure if I’ll continue the series

Childish

It was surprising many times it took an unanticipated direction and now I am looking forward to the rest of the series.

Much better than I expected

I really enjoyed this story. The narrator was great and the story exciting. I can wholeheartedly recommend this book.

Excellent

Most of the story is well crafted and enjoyable, but within the last four hours or starting around chapter 14 the story resembles life in a federal prison being described as a luxury resort. It gets to be appallingly (and literally) unbelievable. Also, some should know this is a not particularly romantic sex story, though this does not really become apparent until about the same place the story becomes unbelievable. The effort to include sex is probably related to the quality of the story falling apart.

Nonsexual excellent adventure, then a sex story!?

I liked it ok, but probably will not get book 2. this one was a good read tgo

pretty good book

Kinda of a good story, the second one was much worse, so it's probably not worth getting invested, as the second one barely has the same characters (not the main character, notably)

Sort of entertaining

Even though author tries to hide behind initials, it is very clear that this is written by a woman. All focus is on emotion. What little action exists is a caricature.

Written by a woman, for women
