About this listen

America's most delightfully unconventional hostess and the best-selling author of I Like You delivers a new book that will forever change the world of crafting. According to Amy Sedaris, it's often been said that ugly people craft and attractive people have sex. In her new book, Simple Times, she sets the record straight. Demonstrating that crafting is one of life's more pleasurable and constructive leisure activities, Sedaris shows that anyone with a couple of hours to kill and access to pipe cleaners can join the elite society of crafters.

Critic reviews

"Those looking to make conventional crafts, obviously, should look elsewhere. Everyone else should sit down, have a laugh, and make your very own bean-and-leaf James Brown mosaic. The author and her brother have a considerable following among hip readers of humor, and the appeal of this book will certainly transcend the world of crafters." ( Booklist)

The audiobook is well produced with music, and two narrators including Amy Sedaris. It was a fun listen, and comes with a PDF showing the hideous crafts. This is a fun spoof. It is a bit short though, less than 3 hours.

A few laughs

I heard Amy on NPR and really liked her story telling, so I ordered this book. I was disappointed that she was not the narrator, and the way the theme of the story was played out did not meet my expectations of the author.

I don't care for books when they are "acted out" in different voices; I prefer the story to merely be read, allowing me to add my interpretation of how the different characters would sound.

I'm late to the party on Amy Sedaris. After reading and listening to numerous mentions of Amy in her brother's work I'm sorry I didn't check her work out sooner. It's dark. Don't let the pretty face and smile fool you if you're not familiar. The commitment to the joke in her chapter on crafting for the hearing impaired is worth the purchase of the audiobook alone.

Love this woman. And Paul Dinello is also hilarious.

I have the hardbound copy as well and it's wonderful.

I love her book “I like you” it’s one of my most frequented and favorites. The narration on this is a bit too much for this and the storyline isn’t great. It’s like a lengthy article on odd crafts. I took something from “I like you” I didn’t really learn anything from this book. Didn’t return it on time.

Not for me

This book was a little too out there for me. Tried too hard to be outrageous and ended up falling on its face.
