About this listen

David Sedaris's beloved holiday collection is new again with six more pieces, including a never before published story. Along with such favorites as the diaries of a Macy's elf and the annals of two very competitive families, are Sedaris's tales of tardy trick-or-treaters ("Us and Them"); the difficulties of explaining the Easter Bunny to the French ("Jesus Shaves"); what to do when you've been locked out in a snowstorm ("Let It Snow"); the puzzling Christmas traditions of other nations ("Six to Eight Black Men"); what Halloween at the medical examiner's looks like ("The Monster Mash"); and a barnyard secret Santa scheme gone awry ("Cow and Turkey").

No matter what your favorite holiday, you won't want to miss celebrating it with the author who has been called "one of the funniest writers alive" (Economist).

Editorial Review

You didn’t think I was going to be *all* doom and gloom, did you?? Last night I picked up a bottle of brandy from the corner wine store, poured it with a splash of eggnog into my Fishs Eddy Turnt tumbler, and settled in for an evening of wrapping gifts and listening to David Sedaris’s Santaland Diaries from Holidays on Ice. His hilarious account of working as a department store elf is an absolute classic (shenanigans, obviously, ensue), and I hope you’ll love it as much as I do. —Rachel S., Audible Editor

Love this !! Sedaris flexes his writing muscles!

Reaching through words stars not yet discovered!
His stories always end at his beginnings and visa versa! Songs to my ears and my own North Carolina experiences!

It's David Sedaris, what else do you need to know?

Just go for it! David Sedaris is a fantastic writer and performer, plus Amy Sedaris and Ann Magnussen perform here as well. What's not to like?

Santaland diaries are the best part

I bought this audiobook because of the Santaland diaries which I really liked but after that he just has a lot of stories that are just made up rather than personal accounts from his history or about his family etc. which are my favorites. The extra stories on the end are already available on other audiobooks so those weren't special either. I love David Sedaris but I'm not sure if the Santaland diaries were worth $15 in an audiobook.

So funny

I spent every moment of listening to this audio book hysterically laughing to the point where I almost crashed my car multiple times. This is a must read!

Hilarious

That is all.
The review status says I need to write 15+ words, but I'm not sure what else to say.
The book gave me belly laughs. Sometimes, inappropriate belly laughs - meaning the is politically incorrect.

SantaLand Diaries is great, but as for the rest ..

Holidays on Ice contains a few five-star, laugh out loud, must-read pieces, like the classic SantaLand Diaries and Six to Eight Black Men. I found much of the rest of the book to be just average, sad, dispirited, and even disturbing (but that's David Sedaris for you).

Mostly Entertaining

Sometimes funny, sometimes disturbing. Wish I had only gotten this edition, instead of accidentally purchasing a previous edition with an hour less content. Although after listening to both, I kinda wish I hadn't bought either one.

The reason I still read Sedaris' book today

This was the first book by David Sedaris I ever read, and then listened to from readings on This American Life. Sedaris storytelling and narration are excellent, and the essays contained are riotous.
