Publisher's summary

The sisters of the Order of Saint Rita navigate the far reaches of space and challenges of faith in the follow-up to the Golden Crown Literary Society Award finalist Sisters of the Vast Black.

“We lit the spark, maybe we should be here for the flames.”

Not long ago, Earth’s colonies and space stations threw off the yoke of planet Earth’s tyrannical rule. Decades later, trouble is brewing in the Four Systems, and Old Earth is flexing its power in a bid to regain control over its lost territories.

Sucessor to The Sparrow

this is pr0bably the most poignant telling of the diverse range interior spiritual journeys of a group of ppl Ive read in scifi since The Sparrow by Russell. as a catholic i know many can see us as a monolith or sometimes they dont see us at all- only the looming institution of the Vatican. the idea of what sort of personal spirituality it individuals hold is not even considered. this book does away with those stereotypes. its characters are a range of the strict orthodox to the heretical and all are treated with respect and compassion. Lina Rather I will read anything you write.

Enjoyed

Beautiful world-building. The concepts of living ships, etc seemed so foreign to me at first, but it was executed well and felt believable in the universe.
I listened to both books in this series quickly and enjoyed them thoroughly.
I did struggle a bit following some of the names at first. But I think that is to be expected sometimes with audiobooks.
Would love to listen to/read more of this universe/author.
Gemma’s storyline was especially heartwarming to me.
