About this listen

FBI Special Agent Anna Turnipseed, a Modoc Indian from California, and Bureau of Indian Affairs Investigator Emmett Parker, a Comanche from Oklahoma, are a team, sent by the Feds wherever there are problems in tribal territory.

This assignment takes them to upstate New York where Brenda Two Kettles, an elder of the Oneida tribe, was found dead in a cornfield, every major bone in her body shattered. She seems to have fallen from the sky, like Sky Woman of the Oneida creation myth. When Anna and Emmett discover that Brenda was the center of a bitter land dispute between Indians and whites, they are sure she was murdered. Their investigation brings them face to face with the dangers of race war, and soon their own lives depend on Anna's instincts and her ability to see the line where myth and reality come together.

Narrator almost killed the story

After listening to the first 4 books in the series, where the narrator really made the characters come to life…..this new voice with heavy WRONG accents really detracted from the story. So so happy to see the next book is back to original narrator.

Disappointed in conclusion

This is the first book I have listed to in the series. I was very engaged in the book up to the end but then I did not feel the author fully explained things to my satisfaction. I was wondering if my audio book had skipped a chapter at the end. I am a detail person and I was left with a lot of questions that weren’t fully answered. Also, while others disagree, for me the descriptions of the child abuse were too disturbing and I didn’t need that amount of detail. Nor did I need it to be repeated. in an audiobook you end up listening to all the disturbing details. I would have rather read this as a book so I could skip over those details.

Disappointed

Did not seem like the same author. I could not get used to the narrators voice - especially for Anna.

I wanted Emmit and Anna to have more than a few moments together.

very poor choice of narrator

how sad to have such a great story narrated by a poor choice of narrator. the nasal inflection aside, his voice & characterization is awful. such a disappointment given the previous narrator's voice.

Worst Narrator

This narrator ruined the characters they weemed unreal and was so very poorly portrayed. Stephen Rudinicki the original narrator fir first 2 books in series made Emmett and Turnipseed believable characters and an enjoyable listen. The story is good just needed original Narrator.

Enjoyable story.

A very good mystery with enough indian lore and police procedural to keep everyone happy.

loved it!

best one yet of this series. I have read everything by Tony Hillerman and his daughter and I have finally found someone almost as good and better than most. I highly recommend this book.
