Publisher's summary

A dark, compelling new thriller from best-selling authors Sarah A. Denzil and Anni Taylor

Young backpackers Gemma and Hayley arrive at a remote fruit farm in Australia’s Northern Territory, out of money and desperate for work.

The weeks go on, a blur of fruit picking, parties, campfires and wading beneath waterfalls in the nearby hot springs. Until the night the girls find themselves on a dark highway, bruised and bloodied.

Senior Detective Bronwen McKay and psychologist Megan Arlotti question the terrified girls. But Hayley and Gemma are telling two very different stories of what happened to them over the past three months.

Which story is the truth, and what are the girls covering up? A suspenseful thriller that will keep you guessing until the very end.

Editor's Pick

They don’t do stranger danger like they used to...
"It sounded like a pretty sweet deal when Gemma and Hayley stumbled upon a job offering free lodging, pool access, fresh air, and fruit-picking. What more could you ask for? However, the outcome isn’t what you would expect. After being found bruised and bloody on the road, detectives can clearly tell the girls have been through a very traumatic experience. Held captive by a now dead mad man, it seems like a pretty cut and dry case for the detectives on the case. But why are Gemma and Hayley’s stories so vastly different? The combined masterminds of writers Sarah A. Denzil and Anni Taylor and the stunning narration by Aimee Horne take you down a very twisted road of truth and lies because the more you know, the more you questions you have, and the darker the answers are."

Can't finish

I didn't finish the book. The narrator was okay when it came to general narration but her dialogue was so awkward and it made me cringe every time someone spoke. And it didn't matter who spoke, they all had multiple weird pauses within one sentence. It is also very hard to discern between the two girls.

Narrator so talented!

Sometimes you hear a story and you can tell they are reading. Aimee reads as if she was in a play. Real life pauses, hesitations, and emphasis on words. May not be for all but I was captured by the pacing and tone.

cool concept, poor execution

Long in all the wrong places, suspense is relieved too soon and the twist that could have been an incredibly fascinating theme was flattened by an attempt at an action sequence that really seemed out of place.

A bit far fetched for my taste.

I have enjoyed other books by this author. She typically spins a good, solid story with believable characters, The story of this book was a bit far fetched for my taste.

loved it

I drive a lot for work and this book had me wanting to get in the car and drive. There were plenty of plot twists to keep you interested and it was a pretty good story line too. I enjoyed listening to the reader and thought she did a pretty good job of bringing the characters to life.

WOW! So much better than expected!

Definitely give this book a try. I was hesitant with the small amount of reviews when I got the book, but it was a risk best taken! Amazing narration, great storyline and just overall a great listen.

Very unique and captivating.

I’ve listened to so many psychological thrillers that they have started to sound the same. This one felt new and fresh. Super captivating from the beginning. Nothing moves slow and it took many turns I wasn’t expecting. It does center around some difficult themes to listen to but doesn’t go into graphic detail. Loved it!

compelling

I had to listen to this twice--it is so well told, so creepy, and with minimal violence. Narrator is Australian and there were times when Aimee Horne pronounced Gema's name like: "Gemar"--which was like a road bump in the listening. Otherwise, it was a riveting story.
