About this listen

Revised and expanded, with a new afterword by the author, this is the definitive biography of Duane Allman, one of the most revered guitarists of his generation. Skydog reveals the complete story of the legendary guitarist: his childhood and musical awakening; his struggling first bands; his hard-won mastery of the slide guitar; his emergence as a successful session musician; his creation of the Allman Brothers Band; his tragic death at age 24; and his thriving musical legacy.

Fantastic, brilliantly written, must for any guitarist or fan!

This has to be THE definitive biography of an American treasure, Duane Allman. I’m a lifelong fan of the Allman Brothers, indoctrinated by parents who grew up in Atlanta and saw the band many times with Duane in the band. There is so much in this book I didn’t know. It uncovers every aspect of his life and his musical contributions, with a storyteller’s gift for narrative and a scholar’s attention to detail. Outstanding

Superb Book

What a great story. This starts when Duane and Gregg were kids, and goes all the way to when they started the Allman Brother's Band to Duane's death. He died way to young from a motorcycle accident. Duane was a great guitarist. Plus there is a lot of history from the great Muscle Shoals recording studio... The ABB were one of my favorite bands back in the day. This is a must listen for any fan of rock n roll history. Perfectly narrated by Arthur Flavell.

Just couldn’t get into it…

I thought it would be good. It looked good. I was interested in learning more. But I just couldn’t get into it. Could have been my frame of mind. Maybe I’ll try to finish later.
