About this listen
While Dr. Cole considers the uncomfortable notion that someone within his own company might wish him harm, Rosen begins her search for the cause of her father's hair-raising "near miss." But what both don't know is this: their fears have a common source. They are being watched by people in the Pentagon, who believe that the two might stumble upon the secret that will destroy them all before Skyhook has a chance to succeed.
What is Skyhook's real purpose? Is it commercial or military? And will its early implementation compromise the safety of flyers everywhere?

Story
Over the Atlantic in the dark of night, the electronic brain of Pangia Airlines Flight 10 quietly and without warning disconnects all the cockpit controls and reverses course on its own. The crew of the huge Airbus 330 at first senses nothing, the flight displays still showing them on course to New York. But with puzzled passengers reporting stars on the wrong side—not to mention armed fighters pulling alongside to force them to land—the confused pilots discover that Flight 10 is streaking back toward the hyper-volatile Middle East, and there is nothing they can do about it.

Story
Boarding an airplane strikes at least a small sense of fear into most people. Even though we all have heard that the odds of being struck by lightning are greater than the odds of perishing in a plane crash, it still doesn't feel that way. Airplane crashes might be rare, but they do happen, and they’re usually fatal. David Soucie insists that most of these deaths could be prevented. He’s worked as a pilot, a mechanic, an FAA inspector, and an aviation executive. He’s seen death up close and personal - deaths of colleagues and friends that might have been prevented if he had approved certain safety measures in the aircrafts they were handling.

Story
Three-time Hugo Award-winning author Allen Steele now imagines an alternate history rooted in an actual historical possibility: what if the race to space had occurred in the early days of WWII? It's 1941, and Wernher von Braun is ordered by his Fuehrer to abandon the V2 rocket and turn German resources in a daring new direction: construction of a manned orbital spacecraft capable of attacking the U.S. Work on the rocket - called Silbervogel - begins at Peenemunde. Though it is top secret, British intelligence discovers the plan, and brings word to Franklin Roosevelt.

Different voices used for dialog
I cannot comment on the story however the reading production was terrible. Any dialog was read by someone other than the narrator. It was like listening to an old time radio serial rather than reading a book. Very distracting. Returned the title.

Not what I hoped for.
Would you try another book from John J. Nance and/or the narrator?
I selected this title hoping for a good aviation story. This was an OK story but I was irritated by the main character's flitting around which almost made this chick lit.
What could John J. Nance have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Focused more on the pilot and not his daughter. This would have worked better from the pilot's point of view.
What three words best describe the narrator’s performance?
Like the performance and will look for more titles read by this narrator.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
no

Great narration especially by the author
Loved most of the characters…I especially enjoyed the special effects the narrator used when characters spoke on radio or via telephone; very realistic. Plot was good mostly but became muddled toward end of novel. Overall glad I read it
