Beautiful World

Disclaimer: This audiobook was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review. This has been a very enjoyable ride. The fusion of tech, a potential glimpse into the future, beautiful planets, magic and robots, this book gave me chills and brought about an array of emotions. It is wonderfully written, with characters that I came to grow and love dearly as the book progresses. Definitely will revisit this book in the future. Narration by Daniel Susco was done wonderfully. With little musical tracks at the start of every chapters, it sets a kind of mood that matches that of the book very well. the slight alteration of voice to sound robotic is a wonderful touch, I love it so much, and the way the different characters were read was enjoyable too, both male and female, especially without forcing of the female voice.

Traditional YA tropes in a fresh wrapping

In the beginning, you get a lot of the traditional tropes with a technological society that isn't quite what it seems, but it quickly becomes a bit more of a mystery. This is mainly because some of the supporting characters don't explain things fully, which pans out as you go through the story and slowly unfold the things that the race of Maglans have forgotten. I also appreciated that the normal romance sub-plots didn't take over the story like they do in a lot of other books.

Good writing

As much as I enjoyed the writing and style of the book, the subject matter is a bit niche and a little forced. I would read something from this author again though. I think it’s just a case of “I have this idea…” and it isn’t something most people would be overly thrilled to read about.

Could also do without the music every chapter. A real heart-stopper when you listen to books to fall asleep and the music jars you awake. Less is more.

Oh so good!

Steve Davala does it again!! I read his Soulkind series and was so thrilled to get this copy. He did not disappoint! A wonderful sci-fi dystopian. As I was listening to it I forgot how long the book actually is. Just when I thought the book was going to end soon I looked at my phone and saw I was only 1/4 of the way through the book! I was astonished as to how much Steve got into this amazing book! Highly recommend for those who love sci-fi and those who love dystopian.
