About this listen

Desperate, driven, harassed to the breaking point, Slake decides to go underground into the sheltering depths of the New York City subway, where he ends up staying for 121 days. This is the story about survival, and about a 13-year-old misfit's attempts to find footing in a hostile and threatening world.©1986 Felice Holman (P)2009 Listening Library Coming of Age Difficult Situations Growing Up Literature & Fiction Loners & Outcasts Fiction Adventure

I loved reading this book when I was a kid, many years ago, and to be able to listen to it was very enjoyable. A fantastic, compelling story that I highly recommend.

It’s been over 50 years since this book has come out, but it’s meaning and the things that flake went through I still valid. It’s very very easy to be overlooked and it’s very easy to be taken advantage of slake survives though. Through bravery on his part, and also through persistence, he overcomes quite a few challenges to actually make a life for himself, although temporary. Who knows where the story will lead as it ends on a question but it is a story well written well received, and should be read by everyone.

A touching survival story
