About this listen

Greg “Slam” Harris can play basketball, period. On the court, he’s almost unstoppable. As he says, “I can hoop. Case closed.” But off the court, it’s a different story. Every day is a struggle to keep things together. Leaving his best friend Ice behind, Slam transfers to a top-notch academic school and is easily the best player on the basketball team. But his grades are slipping, and the coach doesn’t appreciate Slam’s attitude. On top of that, Slam suspects that Ice has started selling drugs, just as their opposing teams prepare for a showdown on the court. If Slam wants to hold everything together, he’ll have to apply his passion for basketball to everything else in his life. With an urban, teenage voice, Walter Dean Myers earnestly reflects the hopes and desires shared by many budding hoop dreamers. Narrator Thomas Penny vividly captures both the internal and external challenges Slam faces while chasing his dream from the streets, to the classrooms, to the hardwood floors.

Definitely a book to read.

I love every single thing about the book. The first time I heard it I fell in love with book. The narrator did an excellent job with portraying a teenager.

My book of my childhood

The narrator did a fantastic job talking and being the main character of the story I really hope to see a series or film that will do this book justice

Slam! It's lit

What made the experience of listening to Slam! the most enjoyable?

The narrator bought in a pretty good teenage accent and changed the voice according to each people and situation. Nice deep accent for Slam and Ice which matches with their appearance and description

What was one of the most memorable moments of Slam!?

The title of the book itself describes the best moment of this novel. Everytime Greg SLAMs the ball makes me feel energized and happy.

What does Thomas Penny bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

If I read this book by myself, I wouldn't have been able to listen to those accents in different situations. Mr. Thomas Penny really bought the feel to this book,

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

If you reading this book and you aren't a professional reader, you might consider getting 2 or 3 breaks because of its length. But if you are a diehard fans of novels, this book can be really be helpful if you read it in one try. It will smoothly transfer you to the next events.

Any additional comments?

This book is actually pretty slow and deep so consider being calm hehe.

Slam!

The book gives good detail on what the average person living in the hoods day would be like. I also like how it had a lot of punk in it.
