About this listen

Hank and his trusty Corpsman, "Doc," thought they knew what to expect when they were deployed to Iraq, but after getting trapped in an ancient Babylonian temple, things got weird. Following months of combat in a war that wouldn't end, Hank returns to California to face a different type of immigrant—the kind that comes from space.

Follow Hank through this wildly imaginative science fiction romp as he tries to figure out what it means to be human, or if he even still is one.

Details that only a veteran would truly understand

Absolutely loved it, though obviously each character actor used a different recording device and it shows, glaringly...lol

WOW!

This is spectacular example of what can be the next Sci-fi epic. Spectacular story telling, and having the author narrating adds a special touch.
A great story about love, loss, and camaraderie, with a generous helping of dick and fart jokes.

Memories

I remember having many conversations almost exactly like this. The names may be different, but the personalities are the same as the men I served with.
This feeling of familiarity made me connect with these characters.

More addictive than cigarettes

Was on a deployment with a marine who recommended this series to me. Me being a chairforce dude when he spoke about space marines and clapping alien cheeks I was a bit concerned for whatever halo star trek crossover fever dream I was about to get into given my pogish nature. But literally could not stop listening to this. It’s honestly one of the most just wild rides but somehow relatable things I’ve listened too. Like Generation Kill went bare back with Original series star trek with a sprinkle of ancient Sumerian thrown in there. 11/10 absolutely killer.

Absolutely one of the best military sci-fi stories

Love the characters and the tale. Lots of blood, gore, sex, violence, as a backdrop to a truly wonderful love story. Honestly, it’s crazy and a great performance at all levels.

The Audio Book brings the Narrative to life.

I've read the first 9 books in the series so far, waiting on the final 3 Smokepit books to drop soon I will be getting the other Audio books as they drop thats for damn sure. That being said Tripp writes a war story like a post bender fueled Hunter S. Thompson bringing you to the edge of the abyss and then shunting you sideways back into reality. While keeping up with romance and hate sex, doing anything for those youd bleed for and make others bleed for. The root of the story and the cast Tripp has assembled brings the nuance to life, great background atmosphere while not distracting from the story to.

While this might not be a mainstream Wartime/SciFi/Fantasy/Romance book series it really should be, it takes flight while keeping things grounded in the real people love and loose while also sometimes getting puked on while getting it on. If you enjoy any of those above genres and are a lover of mixing them youd enjoy this book. Half the women are vile while the other half are wife material and each of the men fall somewhere in-between.

It's time travel for Vet's...

I knew Tripp for his bullshitting at the smoke pit, and guitar playing, and Gundam jacket patches. He knew the Corps I went looking for better than anyone I ever met. For those of you who had the privilege of experiencing the Corps in the Glory days where it served a purpose other than filling chucks, he captured the beauty of it perfectly here. Every stupid stigma or stereotypical meme about the Corps and more is within these covers man. It's a blast to listen to, especially as a Veteran.

If you like sci fi, and you get a kick out of reminiscing on days while enlisted from time to time, this shit is the fix for you, I can guarantee it.
