About this listen

"Why are you all so pretty?"

It all started when I was six years old. I was homeless. They were held prisoner.

I saved them. Even though it put me in the system. They believed we built an unbreakable bond forged by trauma. These beautiful, damaged boys saw me differently than the rest of the world.

As much as I wished I could feel the same. I couldn't. These boys—men—had too much anger. Too much hate.

They wanted to burn down anything and everyone who had wronged them. It was eating them up inside. I tried to warn them. Instead of listening to me, they were set on destroying themselves.

And me in the process.

Contains mature themes.

Excellent narration and story telling!

I loved how the story unfolds, moving deftly between the past and the present. “Beastie” is a girl living in the edges of society- homeless with her aunt. Then she spots four boys being help against their will. Her alert saves them, but leads to her removal in to a group home and the foster care system. The boys are grateful for their rescue, but life in the system isn’t easy either. They look out for each other, sometimes together, sometimes at a distance. Now as adults, they have to save each other again. The love and bond between the five will be tested, but proves unbreakable.

The narration is pitch perfect. I cannot wait to dive in to what will happen in the next book. I really enjoyed this listen.
