Publisher's summary

The poet Kabîr is one of the most interesting personalities in the history of Indian mysticism. Born in or near Benares of Mohammedan parents and probably about the year 1440, be became in early life a disciple of the celebrated Hindu ascetic Râmânanda.

Râmânanda had brought to Northern India the religious revival that Râmânuja, the great 12th-century reformer of Brâhmanism, had initiated in the South. This revival was in part a reaction against the increasing formalism of the orthodox cult, in part an assertion of the demands of the heart as against the intense intellectualism of the Vedânta philosophy, the exaggerated monism that that philosophy proclaimed. It took in Râmânuja's preaching the form of an ardent personal devotion to the God Vishnu, as representing the personal aspect of the divine nature: that mystical "religion of love" that everywhere makes its appearance at a certain level of spiritual culture.

Prayers of thankfulness!

I love this! But I wish the poems were split into chapter as was the way in the “essential Rumi” audiobook.

Be blessed! Rejoice!

Excellent opening essay.

The opening bio of Kabir is unusually rich and concise..Many spiritual and religious groups take very complete and multifaceted things and people like Kabir, in parts as there own partial views..Those of you with experience with this know how common and very human it is,lol. This essayist has not done this
Some dislike the narrative here..There is no profoundly exaggerated voice with a sitar plucking in the background with humming chant ..I for one am eternally grateful for this.lol
Kabirs words of love for and from God are profound enough for me, without added effects. The narrative is simple, clear and non robotic. However, this is a very personal choice
There are 2 complaints I have unfortunately.
Not having chapters between the songs is most irritating. I suspect this was originally a cassette recording.
second, including material of Sri ramakrishna in a book of Kabir seems incredibly ridiculous. Kabir and his Teacher were literally fighting against the very God view of Ramakrishna.
For you who are unaware of this, Ramakrishna was what they call a advita..non duel..in English this is a pantheist or monist. There is no insult here, he clearly identified himself as that.
Kabir clearly and openly declared This world view as FALSE. He preached a absolute distinction between the soul and GODs SELF.
Simply putting additional indian Guru content becouse he was a indian guru is misleading and manipulative..Some of you will understand my meaning in that statement..
That aside, I hope you risk the price of a PREMIUM cup of coffee on this very well done book of a TRULY BEAUTIFUL MAN OF GOD.
God bless you all

It's hard to listen to.

The story is beautiful and divine, but the narration is horrible. He butchers the Indian words. He does so much that it makes it difficult to listen to.
