About this listen

Amber Appleton lives in a bus. Ever since her mom’s boyfriend kicked them out, Amber, her mom, and her totally loyal dog, Bobby Big Boy (a.k.a Thrice B), have been camped out in the back of Hello Yellow (the school bus her mom drives). Still, Amber, the self- proclaimed princess of hope and girl of unyielding optimism, refuses to sweat the bad stuff. But when a fatal tragedy threatens Amber’s optimism - and her way of life - can Amber continue to be the rock star of hope?

With an oddball cast of characters, this heartwarming, inspiring novel unveils a beautifully beaten-up world of laughs, loyalty, and hard-earned hope. The world is Amber’s stage, and Amber is, well...she’s sorta like a rock star. True? True.

Sorta like a teenager

Would you listen to Sorta Like a Rock Star again? Why?

Took a lot of patience to listen to the slang but it was great story so yes I would.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I really liked Ty through it all he stood by his best friend.

What about Cynthia Holloway’s performance did you like?

She defiantly captured the very perky ness of the authors narrative

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes at first, it was hard at first.

Heartwarming

What was one of the most memorable moments of Sorta Like a Rock Star?

I love how Amber shortens everyones names to their initials. I also love how she relates to people most teenagers would avoid.

Have you listened to any of Cynthia Holloway’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have not but I will now!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The parts where she was interacting with the people in the rest home were heartwarming. I loved the battlel.

Any additional comments?

This book is probably written for teens but I'm 38 and I really liked it.

Wow

Great story or struggle, support and friendship. I recently watched the movie and wanted a little more background on the characters. Darker story but very enjoyable.

After being hooked by Silver Linings playbook.....

What made the experience of listening to Sorta Like a Rock Star the most enjoyable?

The story was a positive uplifting one ...Although I think it might have been aimed at a younger audience, but was pleased I gave it a chance anyway.

Which character – as performed by Cynthia Holloway – was your favorite?

I liked the bitter old lady in the nursing home because I can relate to her cynicism

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Not an extreme reaction, but it was one that I couldn't stop listening to

Any additional comments?

This book reminds me of a young lady I work with who is the sweetest, most optimistic person Ive ever met despite the loss of her mother as a child and some other tough circumstances...I've recommended she give this a read
