About this listen

A man brutally murders another in a peculiar hunting incident - and then proceeds to assume his persona, his life, and his wife.

When a petty argument with an arrogant stranger deep in a Wisconsin forest over who killed a deer escalates to murder, playwright Andrew Neville's life becomes a tangled web of deceit - and self-deception. Back in hometown Chicago, Neville attends the funeral of the man he's murdered and meets his widow, Claudia, and her 3-year-old son. Neville gradually insinuates himself into the widow's confidence and conceives a plan to seize the victim's life - his wife, his son, his work, his wealth, and even his persona and appearance. Neville will become he man he killed. It appears nothing can stop him - except the obnoxious Chicago PI who's determined to prove that Neville and Claudia murdered her husband together.

I lived the story. Quirky, but logical. Great characters. Very well read. Surprising ending. Faust is a worthy read.

This was a little disjointed, and the main character wasn’t very likable, so it was hard to get on board with the “budding romance”. It’s an interesting plot just not too well executed.

Weird

I don't know if this is as good at The Telltale Heart, The Fruit at the bottom of the Bowl, or Crime and Punishment, but those are what come to mind. This is a horrible story of a very sick man and a very vulnerable, gullible woman who notices how he begins to take on her late-husband's persona, but doesn't mind. The ending has a wry twist that may not be fair, but may get psychological help for the innocent fall guy.

Since it seems most of this author's books are similarly violent and gory, I am done with him.

my last Ron Faust

Did not like it at all. Performance was good though. It intrigued me at first but than I just gradually lost interest. Can not say exactly what put me off but definitely Andrew , main character, was not appealing to me.

Boring
