About this listen
What really happens on the front lines of change? For Kathryn, a former ESPN columnist and professional cyclist, advocating for gender equality wasn't even on her radar in 2006. She was on a journalism assignment, trying to get to the Beijing Summer Olympics. By 2016, everything changed. Global petitions, documentary filmmaking, pressure groups, secret meetings, bullying managers, brain injuries, devastating depression, healing victories…the decade-long span of one woman's foray into activism was rife with difficulties. But also a journey of hope, passion, courage and triumph.
With unabashed honesty, irreverence, history, humor and authenticity, Kathryn’s memoir takes us behind the scenes of what really happens when we stand up and fight for what we believe. And why we must. Proving that we all have the power to create change, STAND delivers a timely and poignant message to listeners from all walks of life: The journey toward equal opportunity is always worth the struggle.
Also included is bonus content, unique to the audio edition.

Kara was soon winning a World Championship medal, going to the Olympics, and standing on the podium at the New York and Boston marathons, just like her coach. Stephen A. Smith has never been handed anything, nor was he an overnight success. Growing up poor in Queens, the son of Caribbean immigrants and the youngest of six children, he was a sports-obsessed kid who faced struggles, from undiagnosed dyslexia to getting enough cereal to fill his bowl. As a basketball player at Winston-Salem State University, he got a glimmer of his true calling when he wrote a newspaper column arguing for the retirement of his own Hall of Fame coach, Clarence Gaines.

Lauren Fleshman has grown up in the world of running. One of the most decorated collegiate athletes of all time and a national champion as a pro, she was a major face of women’s running for Nike before leaving to shake up the industry with feminist running brand Oiselle and now coaches elite young female runners. Every step of the way, she has seen the way that our sports systems—originally designed by men, for men and boys—fail young women and girls as much as empower them. Written with heart and verve, Good for a Girl is a joyful love letter to the running life.

Story
Success is not born out of skill, school, where we’re from, who we know, or what we scored on the SAT. None of us were born ready. None of us started life knowing how to fly a plane or launch a company or knit a sweater for our dog. But we are born with something more important than skills. We’re born with optimism—the initial seed for success. Optimism fuels the belief that you can be the one to create the good the world needs. But you’ve got to hone it. And practice it. And determine to live from it.

Marriage, movies, and miracles. Oh, my! Marriage is a dance (even when you step on each other's toes), and movies are minefields of problems and politics, but miracles are more common than you might believe. Kevin and Sam show that if you keep your feet moving and your hearts focused on God's divine rhythm, you can discover successes you might never imagine. All it takes is a little faith. Throughout True Faith, the Sorbos personify this verse as they embrace the struggles they meet and use their faith to bolster their responses.

A Journey about LIFE and the Wild Ride of Activism
When I started this book, I did not know how enriching I would find it for every part of my life and my own perspective. I am not a cycling expert and and don’t even ride my bike very often… but I found myself connecting to Kathryn’s story in so many ways. At every turn, we see Kathryn work through what life throws her way— personal, professional, physical, emotional, and everything in between. for a while, I listen to this every morning on my daily commute, and I found that it fueled me with strength, knowing that someone with Kathryn’s compassion, resilience, and humanity was speaking to me! And she literally was… Because her voice telling her story makes it that much richer of an experience! The way she unabashedly follows her dreams and fights for a quality in this world is amazing. I highly highly highly recommend for anyone who cycles, walks… or even breathes (a.k.a., everyone on the planet)!!

Laughs and cries of life, womanhood, professional female cycling and activism
Kathryn gave an eye opening insight into what was/is happening behind the scenes in professional women cycling through her life story. This is not “yet another” pro cyclist book listing races and workouts, but an in depth tour of the KB’s life as an athlete, activist, human, and female in the most honest voice. Her reading the book lifts the experience to the next level with humor, sarcasm, tension, release… it was great! Get it!
I learned as I listened and already took steps to change my own ways because if it.
