About this listen

Stark Justice follows the adventures of a retired police detective who travels around the country in an RV - looking for trouble that often finds him first.

Like a lot of men in his profession, he had a well-developed plan for his retirement. The RV was always part of it, his wife was the one who suggested it and she helped pick out the model down to the upholstery. But she died before he put his papers in; his only consolation was they had taken a weekend trip in the camper before she passed. She knew him, and made him swear he would not sell it, that he would go and live the life he really wanted. After he sold the house and pulled out of the driveway for the last time, he found the note she had left in the glovebox. He was free, she said. Free to complete the mission he had only just begun.

In this edition, he solves the following cases:

– Avenging an Old Friend: All three of them had been waiting for the day. The victim, the killer and the assassin - it all played out they way they knew it would.

– Smash, Grab and Die: It was a smash-up derby in a shopping center parking lot and they never saw what ended their spree.

– Amateur Killers: They owed a guy money and thought it was easier to kill him than pay the debt. Unfortunately the kids were home. How do you get rid of three bodies when you don't know what you're doing?

– Meat Processing: The grass is sometimes greener because of what they are using to fertilize the ground. Most people know not to ask and even fewer fight back. But when you put arms in the hands of the oppressed sometimes magic happens.

– Scamming the Elderly: It was a variation on an old scheme, updated with modern finance tricks. He saved her home and allowed her to live out her days with dignity.

– Killing the Revolutionaries: They had worked out a plan in their feverish imaginations and they were using children to shield their intentions. Someone has to protect the innocent.

– Don’t Bother Old Men: There are Forgotten Places where no one is left to teach youth how to behave. You do the best you can and hope they take the lesson.

– Collusion, Corruption and Death: You can only poison the earth for so long before those who bury their people in the dirt rise up and take their revenge.

– Don’t Stick it Where it Don’t Belong: It was a case of an old industry finding a new revenue stream and they wanted to keep it quiet. They almost got away with it.

– Playing Make Believe: People who have watched too much television and movies about how things work find out that the world is not full of NPCs waiting to be made into fools for their amusement.

– Painting the Ceiling: In another case of reality trying to imitate art the young lovers discover the meaning of the idea that maybe your life's purpose is to serve as a warning to others.

- Recycling: You can tell a lot about a civilization by going through the dumpster even though you might not like what you find. But it is instructive in case that is where you don't want to wind up.

– The Cure for Vandalism: Sometimes Nature gives you a pass when you come up against a predator. Sometimes the predator isn't hungry. But sometimes the predator simply kills because that is what it is designed to do.

– Old Fashioned Bank Robbery: They were ready the way a high school football team thinks they're ready to take on the State Champs. But the Champs are the Champs for a reason.

– White Collar Execution: It is all about bargaining chips. When you steal you have to consider you might get caught - what do you do then? If you have nothing left to trade, you're in no position to dictate terms.

– Aggressive Home Defense: Everyone knows a Prepper and most people make fun of them behind their back. But when the day comes there is no time to say, 'I told you so.' You have to stand and fight to protect what's yours.
