About this listen

More tongue-in-cheek, laugh-out-loud observations on the world of knitting from the best-selling author and self-proclaimed "Yarn Harlot". Anyone who thinks knitting is for little old ladies hasn't met the Harlot. Pearl-McPhee journeys deep into the land of those who are obsessed with yarn, needles, and what's on their needles now.

Using a travel guide format, she acts as tour guide extraordinaire, describing and critiquing every aspect of this territory she knows so well: its people (young and old, male and female); familiar phrases ("purl this, darn that"); strange beliefs; currency (skein trading); etiquette; holidays (any sale day at the local yarn shop); and customs. She notes important dates in knitting history and celebrates unsung knitting heroes, from the samurai warriors of Japan to the "Terrible Knitters of Dent". And, while the land of knitting is a mostly peaceful place, it does have its controversies, such as the acrylic vs. natural fibers and circular vs. straight needles debates, which Pearl-McPhee visits with relish and glee.

Perfection!!

I absolutely loved everything about this book! I'm just wondering when the royalties are going to come because I swear it comes right out of my head! As a die-hard capital K knitter I absolutely live every breath of this book every day of my life. I really enjoyed the stories, the history, the humor, and the instruction. I wish there were more books by Stephanie Pearl McPhee on Audible.

Knitting tales for knitters

What made the experience of listening to Stephanie Pearl-McPhee Casts Off the most enjoyable?

Having Stephanie read it herself. It felt like I was listening to a fellow, knitter and friend.

Haven't listened to or read any other books by her. Only her blog.

I laughed a bit and smirked a lot, thinking, "yep, I get that," or " oh yeah, I've done that!"

Any additional comments?

It was a short, fun listen, especially since I was knitting a particularly simple sock and could stop to laugh and chuckle to myself.

Funny, precious, and profound

My knitting friends are all remote. I will definitely listen to this book again so I can visit one of my newest knitting friends and about those who are knit in with her.

Funny but

I love the yarn harlot but she seems bored while reading. Seems it would have been better to read than listen too.

My Favorite Book

Most of my book listening is done while knitting. This book slows my knitting only because I am doubled over with laughter. I found the Yarn Harlot's insights into the knitter's psyche to be original and fresh. Her suggestions for knit group etiquette should be typed up for all members of knit groups to memorize. I can' wait for her to record her new book!

Delightful

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I love listening to this when I can't actually be knitting.

Have you listened to any of Stephanie Pearl-McPhee’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes, Delightful as well.

Did Stephanie Pearl-McPhee Casts Off inspire you to do anything?

I've cast on a lace shawl, it should be interesting.

Any additional comments?

This book skips in a couple of places. I've tried a variety of devices and they all skip in places. It's a bit annoying.
