About this listen
In this interview Stephen Fry talks to us about the process of narrating the complete adventures of London's greatest detective, Sherlock Holmes. He touches on the genius of Arthur Conan Doyle and reveals how joining the 'Sherlock Holmes Society' played a part in his expulsion from school and subsequent imprisonment.
Coming round full circle, Stephen admits to having jumped at the chance of voicing Sherlock Holmes: The Definitive Collection. Keen to delve once more into the 'majestic swing, rhythm and pulse of the text,' Stephen describes his experience in the recording studio, all the while expressing a general fondness for the magic of stories told aloud.
As a renowned and beloved actor, writer, and presenter, Stephen Fry has imprinted himself into British culture. He has voiced all seven of the Harry Potter audiobooks, as well as titles such as The Picture of Dorian Gray, Mythos and Winnie the Pooh. His flawless rendition of literary classics is always second to none and in Sherlock Holmes: The Definitive Collection, Stephen immediately draws you in and leaves you wanting more.
Including personal introductions written by and narrated by Stephen, The Definitive Collection is a truly unique literary gem. Audible Members' Choice Winner of the Year, the audiobook has been described by listeners as 'superb' and 'over 70 hours of pure brilliance.'

"Chekhov is probably better known in Britain for his plays than for his prose. For many, however, it is his short stories that mark the high water of his genius. Story
Enthralled by his own exquisite portrait, Dorian Gray exchanges his soul for eternal youth and beauty. Influenced by his friend Lord Henry Wotton, he is drawn into a corrupt double life; indulging his desires in secret while remaining a gentleman in the eyes of polite society. Only his portrait bears the traces of his decadence. The novel was a succès de scandale, and the book was later used as evidence against Wilde at the Old Bailey in 1895. It has lost none of its power to fascinate and disturb.

The kingdom of Cornucopia was once the happiest in the world. It had plenty of gold, a king with the finest moustache you could possibly imagine, and butchers, bakers, and cheesemongers whose exquisite foods made a person dance with delight when they ate them. Everything was perfect - except for the misty Marshlands to the north, which, according to legend, were home to the monstrous Ickabog. Anyone sensible knew that the Ickabog was just a myth to scare children into behaving. But the funny thing about myths is that sometimes they take on a life of their own.

When Carrie Fisher recently discovered the journals she kept during the filming of the first Star Wars movie, she was astonished to see what they had preserved—plaintive love poems, unbridled musings with youthful naiveté, and a vulnerability that she barely recognized. Today, her fame as an author, actress, and pop-culture icon is indisputable, but in 1977, Carrie Fisher was just a teenager with an all-consuming crush on her costar, Harrison Ford.

Story
It took me a lifetime to have the courage and the clarity to write my memoir. I want to tell the story of the moments - the ups and downs, the triumphs and traumas, the debacles and the dreams - that contributed to the person I am today. This book is composed of my memories, my mishaps, my struggles, my survival, and my songs. Unfiltered. I went deep into my childhood and gave the scared little girl inside of me a big voice. I let the abandoned and ambitious adolescent have her say, and the betrayed and triumphant woman I became tell her side.

Experience a bold take on this classic autobiography as it’s performed by Oscar-nominated Laurence Fishburne. In this searing classic autobiography, originally published in 1965, Malcolm X, the Muslim leader, firebrand, and Black empowerment activist, tells the extraordinary story of his life and the growth of the Human Rights movement. His fascinating perspective on the lies and limitations of the American dream and the inherent racism in a society that denies its non-White citizens the opportunity to dream, gives extraordinary insight into the most urgent issues of our own time.

Delight .....
Stephen Fry is such a delight ! Although in this short conversation he repeats some of the stories from his long recording of Sherlock stories - with his presentation and with the additional stories - it's is pure joy to listen to . I wish he would do more reading of his favorite authors- with his comments !

Interesting background on Stephen
Stephen has a distinctive sound and style. I was first introduced to Stephen thru the TV Series Bones. I began to enjoy his speech and style. He has a charming wit and underlying humor without being an overt comic... at least in my exposure to him. This interview gives some insights on his readings; specifically Sherlock Holmes and Harry Potter. I chuckled when I heard the story about 'pocketed it'; quite amusing. While I have enjoyed listening to Stephen in some of his various endeavors; I now find myself wanting more. Considering I am very partial to female voices; this is unusual for me.... and no... Stephen does not have a female sounding voice to me... grin... I intend to investigate his Sherlock Holmes and Harry Potter audio books and perhaps others that he has done, as well.

Love being read to by Stephen Fry!
This interview is like getting a bonus featurette on a DVD. I am so glad to have listened to this prior to hearing my first set of Sherlock Holmes audiobooks read by Stephen. Thank you so much!
