About this listen

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Lisa Gardner, a "frightening, full of twists, and completely satisfying" thriller in which Frankie Elkin must locate the long-lost sister of a serial killer (Karin Slaughter).

Five-year-old Leilani Pierson has been missing for over a decade. Amateur detective Frankie Elkin is an expert at finding missing persons. But this case has unusually high stakes. The request comes from Leilani’s sister Kaylee, a convicted serial killer weeks away from her execution date.

The main suspect in the kidnapping? Kaylee’s ex-boyfriend, a tech billionaire who has hidden himself away on a remote base camp near Hawaii.

Determined to find the missing girl–alive–Frankie embarks on a dangerous mission. Up against a ticking clock and an incoming tropical storm, will Frankie Elkin learn the truth and save Leilani before it’s too late?

Lisa Gardner Does It Again!!!!

I always preorder anything Lisa Gardner writes and she has never disappointed me. I loved her DD Warren series. Ditto for her Frankie Elkin series. This is the third book in the Frankie Elkin series. If you haven’t listened to the previous two books you can start with this one because they are all standalone novels.
Frankie finds missing people. In this book a woman on death row with three weeks until her execution sends for her. Her younger sister is missing and she wants her found. She had taken her sister to Hawaii (her mother’s origin) when they were younger and became involved with a handsome wealthy man. He turned out to be abusive, she abused him right back. She was fine with that, she had grown up that way. But then he put her in the hospital and started on her sister. She was only 5 years old at the time and has been missing for 12 years. She returned home and has been murdering men in Texas (18 of them) and looking for her sister ever since but believed she was dead. On death row she received a letter from her sister saying she still loves her. Hence her attorney calling Frankie… Frankie isn’t thrilled to go to Hawaii to work undercover for a wealthy violent man but the thought of the now 17 year old woman living there under possible duress is a bigger pull than her reluctance to put herself in danger.

Hillary Huber does a wonderful job narrating
This book has my VERY HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION!!

Another banger ! It was worth the wait.

I love the descriptive narration of the surroundings , I could see it if I closed my eyes .
I should have known that there’s always a twist to her stories. I like also how each book depicts how Frankie is involving as a person, it’s not the same back story regurgitated with no new developments . Hey! She’s Willingly going on a vacation now…. Maybe. We’ll see if she ends up following through in the next book.

I like Frankie.

Frankie is what keeps me listening to this series. The stories themselves never quite get to the point of "amazing" or 5 star for me, but they do keep me interested and engaged. I care about what happens to the characters, especially Frankie, and they're definitely worth the credit. I'm never blown away, but always entertained. This one is no different. I do like that the stories themselves are all vastly different from one another, the settings and other characters.

I have to also say that the review that says the book gets into politics is an absolute bafoon. One staffing manager asks a new resort employee what they prefer to be called, and that employee asked one other person as a result. That this constitutes as "political" to someone to the point they'd stop listening is a sad reflection of today's mentality. That's a very realistic conversation. The author never mentioned her views about anything remotely relating to the topic. Just had a character ask a very common, realistic question. To get bent about that is just plain silly.

Overall, I'd give the story a 3.85, but I'm a tough rater. In order for me to give a stars, a book has to have captivated me and been so memorable that I think about it years later and remember details about the story, even may decide to listen again in a few years. A 4 star has to impress me to the point of "wow. omg!!" There are just a tad too many flaws in this plot that just didn't work for me when it was all said and done. For example: ****SPOILERS AHEAD; CONTINUE ONLY IF YOU DON'T MIND SPOILERS AND DON'T SAY I DIDN'T GIVE A GOOD HEADS-UP. I'M MAKING THE SPOILER ALERT LONG ENOUGH THAT YOUR EYE DOESN'T ACCIDENTALLY ROAM DOWN PAST THE WARNING BECAUSE I GET REALLY GENUINELY UPSET WHEN A REVIEW CASUALLY DROPS A MASSIVE SPOILER WITH NO WARNING JUST BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T LIKE THE BOOK, OR OCCASIONALLY, IF THEYR REALLY REALLY LIKED IT. A SPOILER WITH NO WARNING IS A JERK MOVE.*** In this particular story, when it was all said and done, I didn't really like the reason Frankie was on the island. She was never part of their nefarious plan. The author explains away her presence by saying that the idealistic attorney sent her, not the serial killer. It was literally just happenstance. That bothers me. I needed for her to have been lured in for an actual reason, as in, she was supposed to be a pawn. Not the case in this story. If she had wandered into it when trying to pursue a case that fascinated or drew her there on her own, it would have been better than to know that her presence in the story wasn't part of the antagonists' plans. That's what bugged me most. That said, the story did keep me interested and engaged and I cared about the outcome because of Frankie's character. Worth the credit, but def not one that will stick with me for too long.

Another great Frankie Elkin

Another great Frankie Elkin story with many twists and turns. This was a unique story that was great to listen to. Finished it in just a few days because I had to find out what happened. Loved the other character development as well.

Frankie! She's My Hero!

She's disobedient, brilliant, bold, and she cuts right through the horsebleep like no other! Ms. Gardner, please tell us what Frankie's going to do next. We love her!
