About this listen

The heart-pounding thriller of a series continues as FBI Special Agent Meg Jennings and her search-and-rescue K-9 companion confront the fury of nature - and the more dangerous nature of man....

In the wake of a devastating hurricane, Special Agent Meg Jennings and her Labrador, Hawk - invaluable members of the FBI’s Human Scent Evidence Team - have been deployed to Virginia Beach. They have their work cut out for them. Amid graveyards of debris, and the buried cries for help, the search and rescue operation begins. The most alarming discovery is yet to come - a teenage girl hiding in the Great Dismal Swamp.

Shaken by the storm, she has reason to be scared. But this young survivor is terrified of so much more. Her name is Emma - a disheveled runaway lost to the sordid underbelly of a Virginia sex-trafficking ring. Its leader has disappeared in the chaos - along with other victims. With so much evidence, and so many witnesses, seemingly washed away, Meg joins forces with Special Agent Walter Van Cleave to ensure no further harm comes to their vulnerable charge.

They soon discover that this is no small-time localized syndicate. Its branches are rooted in some of the most influential powers in Virginia. Now as Meg’s investigation digs deeper, she’s making some very dangerous enemies. And one by one, they’re coming out of the storm to stop her.

Fascinating (and often heart-wrenching) details about hurricanes and the rescue/recovery people who follow after them. Especially interesting -- Meg and Hawk. Adding to the suspense is the story of human sex trafficking and how the FBI worked to bring down a large criminal ring. Overall, a good read.

I’ve enjoyed every book in this series but this one was my favorite so far! I couldn’t stop listening. And Angela Dawes does an excellent job with the narration.

At times I felt that the story — both character interactions and the flow of events — was unrealistic, which irked me.
Narration was outstanding as always.

Great performance, story ok

I really enjoyed this one! It pulled me in from beginning to end and had some good twists as well. I enjoyed getting to see more of Meg and Hawk as well as what has become her core group of people that she relies on and not just the ones in the FBI. Meg is helping find victims after a hurricane when one of those finds quickly deviates her down a road leading to a sex trafficking ring of young women. This story had plenty of intrigue as they followed the clues given to them in order to try and track down the people involved and find all the players. The story held my attention the entire time and I really enjoyed it. I am looking forward to seeing what comes next.
The narrator did a good job with this story and bringing it to life with the different voices and emotions.

Another great story! Really enjoyed it!

Storm Rising: this one dealt with hurricane with Hawk and Meg doing a search and rescue with their teammates. As the team works hard searching for survivors from a hurricane Meg and her boyfriend Todd a firefighter /EMS find a van with two dead young girls. Which later becomes a human trafficking ordeal. Meg and Van Cleef pair up to bring down the head of the “trafficking enterprise”. Again this book is full of action/adventure and lovable intelligent rescue dog. Hawk>. I enjoyed the opening factoid of each chapter. My only complain was that in book 2 there was no bomber after meg it was the kidnapping of women similar to Meg. And the notes were sent to her. Not Clay McCord and the one to decipher them was her sister. Clay only diapered the last one. Off to the next one. Angela Dawe I love the way you narrate Beatiful!

Another great book!

Good story. Bit slow in the start but once it got underway, really enjoyed it. The search and rescue aspect is educational and from what I know correct; more than that, the plot and characters were intriguing. Bogged down here and there but all in all very enjoyable listen.
