About this listen

Pat Buchanan’s latest polemic—and his first since Obama’s election—exposes the risks America faces today and what those dangers will mean for the country’s future.

Since Obama took office, conservative pundits have been mainstays on the best-seller list. And now, the best-selling author and political legend Pat Buchanan weighs in with a warning against not only the dangers that the country faces under Obama, but the risk of sliding into irrelevancy that the Republican party faces if it chooses to forget its core values. As he shows in this incisive book, liberal policy-making and unhindered globalization have eroded America’s economic strength. Changing demographics and declining faith portend a future in which the Republican Party and Christianity will become irrelevant. If things continue unchanged, Buchanan warns, in a few short decades our country will be unrecognizable.

But, there are alternatives. Buchanan finds signs of hope for conservatives and outlines plans for a very different future that the newly ascendant Republicans and Tea Partiers can use in Congress and nationwide.

A major force in conservative opinion and a longtime political commentator, Buchanan’s strident and impassioned argument against the direction in which America is heading will find an eager audience in today’s high-pressure political climate.

Forced equality can never withstand the test of time. Wherever there is freedom, inequality will occure.

Also, Every nation is entitled to predominance on its own land. This is a good lesson for all immigrants but also for all invaders.

I already have.

What was the most compelling aspect of this narrative?

Buchannen painted, and justified, a less than optimistic prediction of america's future based on what has happened in other, similiar countries in the past.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

The narration matched the text.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I was worried for the country.

Any additional comments?

Buchannens voice is too harsh to listen to for long periods of time. They should have a girl do the readings.

prescient and provacative

This was a terrific abridged version of Buchanan's original work that hits on almost every point that he writes about, with the exception of the anti-religious bent that he describes in the text. I've listened to it twice and both times felt extremely depressed about the future of America, which obviously was Buchanan's intention. Great narration by the author.

I think history is proving Pat’s theories out right in spades, even though he has been nothing but castigated for his views!

More Americans need to listen to what Pat wrote!

11 years after it was published it seems fresher than the day it was released. Still relative to the current situation, is a sad reminder of what have we failed to implement for the sake of not only America but for the western world in total as well. Since his message is urgent and has to do with our survival, he wastes no pages to please the reader. He fills the entire work of his with authoritatively opinions and conclusions and offers a wealth of information to the reader, plainly and clearly.
Buchanan's narration has a sweet grandfatherly quality and transcending sadnes, for the message is dead serious. A must read, or hear.

A manifesto of common sense.
