About this listen

American Empire is at its apex. We are the sole superpower, with no potential challenger for a generation. We can reach any point on the globe with our cruise missiles and smart bombs, and our culture penetrates every nook and cranny of the global village. Yet our beloved America is now reviled abroad, dictated to by arrogant judges at home, overrun by special interests, and buried beneath a mountain of debt.

Where the Right Went Wrong chronicles how the Bush administration and Beltway conservatives have abandoned their principles, and how a tiny cabal hijacked U.S. foreign policy and may have ignited a "war of civilizations" with the Islamic world that will leave America mired down in Middle East wars for years to come.

At the same time, these Republicans have sacrificed the American worker on the altar of free trade and discarded the beliefs of Taft, Goldwater, and Reagan to become a party of big government that sells its soul to the highest bidder.

Surreal

I must say, it's truly a surreal experience reading a book in which Pat is slamming the right wing. I am not a fan of pat, or the right wing, but having said that I must say that he makes a very well documented, and well crafted, damning case against the war in Iraq. Perhaps coming from him, some dyed-in-the-wool conservatives might understand the quagmire we've bought into. It's unfortunate, or perhaps just amusing, that after slamming everything the administration has done since day 1, and everything they're planning to do, he still is "for bush" and "against kerry", citing his theory that Bush has been an unwitting victim of neo conservative factions in his administration. Yeah, he's still Pat.

Pat Buchanan as our historian

Mr Buchanan teaches us history, err maybe it's math, let's see 1+1= W is a willing dupe of the neocons and unwittingly allows his presidency to be hijacked (but shhh.. don't tell W cause he still doesn't know). Seriously, as a Carter, Mondale, Dukakis, Clinton voting liberal it is interesting to find myself with almost total agreement with Pat and what is wrong with our current foreign policy and the economic irresponsibility of our president and congress. Too bad Pat has to spoil it by delving into his social policy views. Strange bedfellows aside this book sure makes you think. I give it 5 stars.

Wow what a read!!

Mr. Buchanan hits the nail on the head. Our real problem is that we have career politicians that just worry about being reelected and holding on to their power, but most are not willing to fight for those they represent. They have no principles. They don't want to rock the boat so they just hold to the status quot. They also allow the Judicial Branch to decide law. They need to assert their power and stand up for the constitution. They just have no backbone. Highly recommended!!!!

A 4 year review of Bush...a must read

No matter if your are firmly of the Democratic or Republican field, this book is worth the listen. It defines "neocons" once and for all. He makes a plausible link between the trade deficit, unbalanced budget and Iraq. New lines are drawn between conservative, neoconservatives, liberals and the farther left outlining the political camps for 2008. And once and for all, it is a political book written by a scholar not a newscaster, comedian or reporter. It's Pat Buchanan so expect the angle to come from the right, but dont let that stop you. I gave 4/5 because it is abridged...

Excellent

Patrick Buchanan - as talented and knowledgeable as they come. A true pioneer who has paved the way for the rise of gen-z's anti-neocon movement. May this seed be planted in the mind of all young western men and women. America First.

Wow

Buchanan was wise beyond his years and knew full well what was coming. Sadly the republicans are cowards but there is still time to change things.

Thank you, Mr. Buchanan

Thank you Mr. Buchanan for giving an accurate view of the anti-war right and showing the betrayal of the American right.

Never been a Pat fan but ....

Wow! I'm a non-white ex-"California Republican", and have always thought of Pat as a nut. However, it's amazing how much I agree with what he says.

It pretty much summarizes what most of Americans feel -- that our politicians have sold out our interests for 1) Political correctness, and 2) Big business. Political correctness has allowed non-Western immigrants to overrun our country, and it threatens to re-define what is American. Our new immigrants are predominantly from the Middle East, Asia, Africa and Latin America, and (as a woman) I find this frightening as those parts of the world are known to be the most chauvinistic parts of the world. Big Business has greased our politicians to support asylum of illegal aliens, large numbers of H1B visas, outsourcing, and turning a blind-eye towards the business practices of our trading partners, namely China, while have all of us little guys foot the bill.

I hope some of our politicians read/hear this before it's too late for our country.

When Pat Buchanan was mostly right!

Politically I think of myself as a moderate-Republican/conservative-Democrat. I have frequently admired Mr. Buchanan?s intelligence and generally been appalled by most of his ideas and political positions.

In the climate of our recent 2004 presidential election, Buchanan?s title intrigued me so I gave this book an audio-read. What has happened to me? I agree with a book by Pat Buchanan! (The first half, at least!)

I highly, most highly, recommend the first half of this book as an excellent geo-political-historical discussion of the West?s relationship with Islam. That first half also gives an amazing, frightening, and, I believe, accurate explanation of Ossama Bin Laden?s great plan. It also exposes and explains which country is his greatest accomplice, doing exactly the things that just might make his plan work. In the words of the great Pogo, ?The enemy is us!?

Love George Bush, hate George Bush, or just tolerate George Bush, read this book! We all need to get past that too-easy-to-use word ?evil?. We all need to stop seeing the world in terms of black and white -- them and us. Pat Buchanan (of all people) helps us to do that.

What about the second half of the book? Generally filled with the Pat Buchanan stuff I cannot agree with!

Makes A Believer Out Of Me

I remember the days before I ever read or listened to Pat Buchannan that I parroted all the lines I heard concerning his "racist" "neo-nazi" dogma. After listening to "Where The Right Went Wrong" twice, I find him compellingly believable. This guy has substance and integrity and I am coming to believe most of what he has to say. This book is timely, and whether one is left, right, or moderate; Pat Buchannan offers a lot worth thinking about. Yes, I've even bought the print edition and would like to hear him reading his other books. He clearly believes what he espouses. Its good to hear a man of conviction who is much more than just expedient "rhetoric.
