The journey is a bit painful at first (the truth is often hard to look at) and he then leads you through to practical steps we can take to improve the educational experience for African American children.

The points he is able to make help the reader to zero-in on the realities of educating African American students today. He does so with immense respect and profound power.

The expert delivery of narrator Othell J. Miller lends sincere credibility and vocal expression to Plummer’s many ideas, observations, and stories. I highly recommend listening to this book rather than reading it to yourself; Miller’s resonant tones are a perfect match for the author’s voice.
