About this listen

A murdered mistress. A wrongful arrest. Can Poe and Alana take down a killer from both sides of the law? Edgar Allan "Poe" Rutherford is out of the private investigator game. But can he do it from behind bars? Alana Hu knows she's too skilled of a detective for Poe to cheat and kill behind her back. But when her department forbids her from finding out who set him up, she decides to go rogue. After all, nobody messes with her man without answering to her… When Poe and Alana discover troubling evidence that points to larger forces at play, catching the real killer may just take a tag-team effort… Sunset Dead is the sixth standalone novel in the gripping Murder on Maui mystery series. why does the killer always gloat

So I gave the first book that I had read in this series which was I believe book three a five, I thought it was a smart , entertaining mystery. this one not so much, first off all the killing of all the people just to get to one person. Also why would you take a chance that the Killer would do their typical tv, novel, movie explanation at the end to give you time to get the drop on them. Gun in salt water and sand, definitely wouldn't trust my life to it no matter the make. Never really have anything bad to say about the narration but a certain person was in the hospital had part of their lower intestine removed says how much pain they're in but it is not reflected in the the narrator's voice in any way no hesitation, no dry throat, I have a problem with that knowing is how when people come out of a long surgery they're pretty doped up, and a lot of pain and Confused yet this person could carry on a normal conversation. one other thing that's becoming monotonous I read several of these books now his explanation of his name, how it came to Maui, how he met his wife , yada yada doesn't all have to come at the beginning of the book why can't it be spread out a little bit through the novel it's becoming very monotonous that the first chapter is basically taken up with it. last thing I promise For Heaven's Sake stop blowing so much money on your wife constantly, I know the way she doesn't give anything of consequence in return is sort of like a husband who never buys a good gift but really.

Best Yet!

After the nasty threat from his most dangerous adversary yet at the end of the last book, Choice to Kill (Book 5), Poe & Alana take a new approach, working outside the '"law." Note: Audible lists Sunset Dead as Book 7, it is NOT. Per the author, they made a mistake, and this is Book 6 in the series (FYI!). This book sports TWO narrators for Poe (brilliant Pouhey) and Alana (Excellent Princiotta) as we also hear from Alana's point of view. As usual, the body count is high, the suspense intense, and there's plenty of action. A side note; I haven't mentioned this in earlier reviews, but I get a Big Kick out of Poe's tendency to anthropomorphize Maui the Dog," it's hilarious...

Returning; Distracting Narration

This is book 6 in the series, not book 7. Somehow Audible switched books 6 &7. So, I was stuck listening to this out of order.
I will notify Audible and hopefully get the sequencing corrected.

I love this series, but due to the female narrator, I will read the ebook of this book in the series. IMHO I would advise against wasting a credit and advise purchasing the ebook instead.

They split the book between the male & female narrators. Very little so far has been the usual male narrator. The female narrator has been assigned almost all the chapters. She doesn’t do voices so we hear Poe & Fox as female voices, and everyone in the entire book sounds the same. Thus, sometimes you don’t know who is talking.

The story might be good. However, the narration is so disturbing I can’t see anyone listening to it all the way through.... Hours of not knowing who is talking.
