About this listen

Take control of your finances, restructure your goals, and create a better future for yourself after a layoff.

What would you do if you suddenly lost your job?

Do you have enough money to support yourself until you find another source of income?

What if you can’t get back on track immediately, or ever?

In Surviving a Layoff, you will discover:

  • Tips and tools to manage your life and your money while transitioning through jobs
  • Why you should not doubt your worth or capability if you’ve been let go from your job - chances are, it is not your fault!
  • Four character traits common in people who went from being fired to landing their dream job and earning more than they ever did
  • How to recover from the blow to your self-esteem that comes with getting laid off
  • Why it pays to look at unemployment as an opportunity, not a crippling setback
  • Why no one is immune to sudden joblessness, so it makes sense to have a contingency plan
  • How to avoid debt traps during a layoff
  • How to change your outlook from despair to optimism after losing your job
  • And much more.

It’s easy to assume that companies rarely, if ever, rehire workers they’ve laid off due to business downsizing or loss of revenue.

Many former workers also hesitate to reapply because they believe the real reason for their termination in the first place is the company’s dissatisfaction with their performance.

You are probably plagued by the same assumptions.

But industry research shows this isn’t the case with all terminations. Many businesses actually rehire former employees frequently.

Some start anew with the same company as full-time workers, while others take on freelance or consultant roles.

Even better, losing a job permanently may just be the big break you’ve been needing to rediscover your passions.

If you’re ready to discover how to emerge from a layoff with better character, clearer perspectives, and more opportunities, then scroll up, and click the "buy" button.

I shared this book with my mother and she explained how she wishes she had a book like this while going through a tough layoff. Books and audiobooks like Surviving a Layoff are so important and a crucial piece while getting things back on track after being let go. We’ve all dealt with stressful situations and wish we had an answer in that moment, this is an excellent read for anyone negatively effected by the pandemic as well. Great narration, highly recommend

This book is full of helpful tips for anyone who has been laid off or wants to prepare for one in the future. There's some great advice on how to save money and avoid debt traps, as well as how to feel more optimistic about the future. I enjoy chapter 5 about uncovering untapped resources because of how he advised us to collect unemployment benefits, find an untapped source of income beneath our roof, and strive to control our pride and worry about asking for aid.

Accepting the situation

This would’ve been an excellent book to have a year ago. My company laid everyone off due to the virus. I was very new to that situation as I had never been laid off before so I look like this would have been extremely helpful. Had some good planning suggestions for the future as well as mindset for exactly what the title says surviving a Layoff.

Wish I had this sooner!

No one is immune from getting laid off or fired. If you haven't had that happen, then you haven't been working long enough. This book is great for preparing yourself for what may come. I have been fired or transitioned from job to job six times. The tips and tools that the author lays out in this book, are definitely essential to anyone going through that part of their life...trust me. It's even worse when it comes as a shock, this book talks about how to cope with the blow to your own self-confidence, and then change your outlook to one of opportunity. It also covers some of the hidden debt traps that can overtake you as you work on transitioning and how to avoid them or handle them a better way. After all, the bills still need to be paid. The narration was clear and had a good pace, wasn't a boring part of this book at all. If you have suddenly found yourself without a job, this book is for you. If you think you are doing fine in your current job, this book would be worth a listen...just in case. Thank you to the author for telling me what I needed to hear and for some of those little tips on managing my finances until I got back on my feet that I hadn't even considered. Great Book!

A must have!

Surviving a Layoff is one of those titles that everybody should have in the collection as the old saying goes "Better to be prepared than to get ready." This book just does that not only if you are currently comfortable at work but also while you are currently in the middle of a layoff. Terence really holds your hand and walks you through a complete step-by-step guide to make sure you manage your debt and expenses with the limited income supply now that is coming in. I'm going to recommend anybody that is looking for financial education to this book! Amazing work!
