A Charming Tale

I have enjoyed the Sunday Philosophy Club series. I know this series does not appeal to many people, but I love Isabel Dalhousie’s ethical musings.

Isabel finds a gift for Jamie’s birthday so she treats herself to a meander through her favorite gallery before heading home. She encounters an acquaintance who tells Isabel her problems. Isabel makes a promise, but then finds it difficult to keep. She finds herself in a moral dilemma

The book is well written. I am always amazed at Smith’s creative ideas for his stories. In this series, Smith uses events in Isabel’s everyday life to spur the reader into considering the philosophical aspects of our daily decisions. I find I am thinking about the philosophical question for days after finishing the book. Smith writes with a subtle humor that I enjoy. The characters are so unforgettable and unique. This was a short story. I cannot wait for the next book.

The book was about two and a half hours long. Davina Porter does an excellent job narrating the story. Porter has narrated the entire series. Porter is a Scottish actress and an award-winning audiobook narrator. I love her slight Scottish accent that is just perfect as Isabel.

Love this series.

This is a short visit with Isabel. Not sure how AMcS can keep cranking out so many good ones across many series. Just finished the latest in the #1 Ladies series. So nice to spend time with good people as they keep trying to be even better.

Charming and thoughtful

Isabel Dalhousie at her finest. if you're interested in art, philosophy, the puzzling and often comic dilemmas of life, and the quirks of human nature, this is for you. I loved it, and the reader Davina Porter is perfectly spot on.

This could’ve easily been titled: No good deed goes unpunished.

Wonderful moral and ethical conundrum in the last couple of chapters of the book.
Alexander McCall Smith is sui generis novelist, posing ethical/moral dilemmas in a highly palatable context played out by a plethora of interesting characters.
