About this listen

Jack's a retired ex-cop from New York, seeking the simple life in Cherringham. Sarah's a Web designer who's moved back to the village find herself. But their lives are anything but quiet as the two team up to solve Cherringham's criminal mysteries.

This compilation contains episodes 1 - 3: MURDER ON THAMES, MYSTERY AT THE MANOR and MURDER BY MOONLIGHT.

Here Jack and Sarah investigate a suicide in the River Thames - or was it murder? They investigate an "accidental" fire with deadly consequences, and they nab the culprit behind the Rotary Club choir poisoning.

Cherringham is a series à la Charles Dickens, with a new mystery thriller released each month. Set in the sleepy English village of Cherringham, the detective series brings together an unlikely sleuthing duo: English web designer Sarah and American ex-cop Jack. Thrilling and deadly - but with a spot of tea - it's like Rosamunde Pilcher meets Inspector Barnaby. Each of the self-contained episodes is a quick listen for the morning commute, while waiting for the doctor, or when curling up with a hot cuppa.

For fans of Agatha Christie's "Miss Marple series", Lilian Jackson Braun's "The Cat Who series", Caroline Graham's "Midsomer Murders", and the American TV series "Murder She Wrote", starring Angela Lansbury.

Co-authors Neil Richards (based in the UK) and Matthew Costello (based in the US), have been writing together since the mid 90's, creating content and working on projects for the BBC, Disney Channel, Sony, ABC, Eidos, and Nintendo to name but a few. Their transatlantic collaboration has underpinned scores of TV drama scripts, computer games, radio shows, and - most recently - the successful crime fiction series Cherringham.

The narrator of the audiobook, Neil Dudgeon, has been in many British television programmes including the roles of "DCI John Barnaby" in "Midsomer Murders" and "Jim Riley" in "The Life of Riley".©2016 Bastei Lübbe (P)2016 Lübbe Audio

I can't remember how I found this series, but I'm very glad I did find it. I've already purchased the second entry in this series and expect I will eventually listen to all that are available.

The main characters Jack and Sarah are smart, interesting, likable people. The series takes place in the small town of Cherringham. The stories are well plotted, briskly paced, and entertaining.

This is a good "quick listen". It would be ideal for in-car listening. This is a very good value for the price.

Very Enjoyable

Would you listen to Cherringham - A Cosy Crime Series Compilation (Cherringham 1 - 3) again? Why?

Oh yes! It's a rarity - a well written cozy mystery, and the author obviously is
English. There's nothing worse than an author who thinks she or he can set their novel in England after spending their vacation there, or worse, bases their qualification to write about England on being Masterpiece Theater watchers.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I couldn't say because all the characters are interesting, well-developed and believable. OK, if I have to choose it would probably be the American cop.

What about Neil Dudgeon’s performance did you like?

Neil Dudgeon is great! His voice is rich and easy to listen to and it's not very many men who can read women's voices convincingly.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes.

Any additional comments?

I've listened to all the books in the series now and enjoyed every one as well as this first one.

great series

These are a great read, or listen. Nice story with a mystery or two. Not all are murders, it’s a mix of adventures. I recommend going in order so you can follow the character development. Easy fun storyline adventures in a small English village with contemporary time frame.

Great find, a sleeping wonder

The first 3 episodes in this series have sucked me in as a raving new fan. Well ploted stories with main characters I was instantly drawn too. I can't wait to hear more.

And the narrator is superb!! Absolutely one of the best! I have enjoyed every one of the chapters in this series, and am eagerly awaiting more!

Interesting, witty, charming!

I enjoyed the first three stories in the series and like Neil Dudgeon's narration except that the volume didn't stay at a consistent volume, which made it hard to always hear what he was saying. It sounded like he was turning away from the microphone periodically (think Lina Lamont in "Singing in the Rain" recording with a microphone hidden in a corsage on her dress.) The dropping of the volume may have been for artistic emphasis or something but I felt like I was constantly adjusting it up and down.

Good stories - narration volume inconsistent

I agree with others about the audio - it was bad in the first story, but then got better. Appropriate having Neil Dudgeon narrate as the stories could be plots for Midsommer Murders. I liked them!

Fun cosy mysteries with bad audio

Lovely little mystery series. Smooth narration. Quick listens for a rainy day while your hands stay busy.

Light mystery series

I can't help but think I have just listened to a future series of cozy crime show soon to be exported to Americans.

Another BBC Tely Show?
