About this listen

Born in the storm that doomed his father, Connavar grows to manhood among the mist-covered mountains of Caer Druagh, where the Rigante tribe dwell in harmony with the land and its gods. But beyond the border, across the water, an evil force is gathering strength, an unstoppable force that will change the world beyond all recognition. Haunted by malevolent spirits and hunted by evil men, Connavar sets out on a spectacular mission to save his people.

From the master of the genre, this is a tale of love and honour, friendship and courage, as Gemmell explores the intriguing worlds of Celtic myth and earth magic.

A series I have loved for 20 years.

Wonderful series from my favorite author, I've reread many times in 20 years.

The narrator captures the tone of the characters very well and is easy to listen to.

A Great Story and Enjoyable Read

I was hesitant in choosing this novel because it hadn't had many reviews or accolades but it was actually a great read. I really enjoyed it and will be trying the rest of the series.

Excellant all around!

This is a well-written storyline and tale of what seems to be a believable fantasy based on historical mythology? The narrator, Adjoa Andoh, is spectacular with her diction and voices. Looking forward to Rigante II and others in the series.

Amazing story

The story was excellent and captivating!

The only star off on the performance is that the volume of the reader was a bit erratic, I had to mess with the volume knob a lot.

Great book with mis-read parts

Chapter 6 the reader seems to have forgotten how to read and the title of the book. Multiple times they refer to Connavar as “Sword in the Stone” instead of storm. It’s disruptive for such a great story.

love the author and story

the story is fantastic and one of my all time favorites. in regards to the reader id give 0of5 stars but it won't go lower than 1. her regular voice for narration is beautiful and i wish she just used it for the entire book, buy she does not. the voices she makes for the men are inconsistent and down right horrible. i especially hated how she made Riamfada speak. he was only crippled and she gave him a huge speech impediment. it was horribly difficult to listen to that part of the book and was quite offensive to me. crippled doesn't mean mentally deficient. ive read all 4 books multiple times and was really looking forward to listening to it while i worked. unfortunately, i could not bare to listen to those horribly fake accents and made it about 1/3 through this book and will return it. so unfortunate and disappointing.

Good book, awful reader.

I loved the book, Gemmell delivers again, but Ms. Andoh overdid the accents, I understand there are different cultures in this book and it’s difficult to differentiate the characters, but roughly, most of the characters sounded like constipated old Italian women, accents so exaggerated that, at times, it felt almost like somebody who is trying to make fun of a particular accent.
I know it’s difficult for a woman to emulate a man’s voice, but given that 95%of the characters are men, it just takes away from the seriousness of some situations in the book, just like when a man tries to emulate a woman’s voice, it sounds silly, but in a book where the characters are mostly men and occasionally women, you can get away with a male reader sounding like a woman occasionally, but in this book’s case, all the characters sound bad. Still a good book, Too bad she read the other books in the rigante series as well...
