In what may be her most unsettling novel to date, Sue Grafton's T Is for Trespass is also her most direct confrontation with the forces of evil. Beginning slowly with the day-to-day life of a private eye, Grafton suddenly shifts from the voice of Kinsey Millhone to that of Solana Rojas, introducing listeners to a chilling sociopath. Rojas is not her birth name. It is an identity she cunningly stole, an identity that gives her access to private caregiving jobs. The true horror of the novel builds with excruciating tension as the listener foresees the awfulness that lies ahead. The wrenching suspense lies in whether Kinsey Millhone will realize what is happening in time to intervene.

T Is for Trespass, dealing with issues of identity theft, elder abuse, betrayal of trust, the breakdown in the institutions charged with caring for the weak and the dependent, targets an all-too-real rip in the social fabric. Garfton takes us into far darker territory than she has ever traversed, leaving us with a true sense of horror embedded in the seeming ordinariness of the world we think we know. The result is terrifying.

Critic reviews

"Grafton's mastery of dialogue and her portrayal of the limits of good intentions make this one of the series' high points." ( Publishers Weekly)

Really enjoyed it, felt a bit slow getting started but in retrospect it meant that the characters were well developed. It was well worth sticking with it as the second half was fast moving and full of "action". A thriller with a bit of a difference.

"Grafton suddenly shifts from the voice of Kinsey Millhone to that of Solana Rojas,..."

So says the Publisher's summary. Unfortunately, the narrator either didn't read that or just can't make it happen. I have read every one of Sue Grafton's book and love Kinsey Milhone, but I cannot keep up with which character is speaking because almost all the voices are identical, particularly the women's voices.

I think the book may be really good. I am only in about the 4th chapter, but the narration problem has me so irritated, I dread returning to listen to more of the anonymous characters and trying to sort out who is saying what to whom.

Loved the depth and the relatability of the story to today and mainstream folks. Sorry that it is so believable that this could be true...but it is. Hope everyone who is potentially in this situation has a Kinsey in their address book.

a great tale of patient beware in this day and age

The last few in the alphabet series were rather dull and formulaic, but this book was engrossing and fun to listen to.

True Kinsey Milhone fans will not be disappointed. This one was a little different in that the narrator switches from Kinsey to the villain. I have liked all of Sue Grafton's books and I liked this one too.

Would you listen to T Is for Trespass again? Why?

Yes. Judy Kay's voice.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

This book was probably the most violent and sinister is the series.

Have you listened to any of Judy Kaye’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Oh, yes. I love her voice!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Kinsay and Lula always make me laugh.

Any additional comments?
