About this listen

She's fought death and won. But how can she fight her fears?

Avry knows hardship and trouble. She fought the plague and survived. She took on King Tohon and defeated him. But now her heart-mate, Kerrick, is missing, and Avry fears he's gone forever.

But there's a more immediate threat. The Skeleton King plots to claim the Fifteen Realms for his own. With armies in disarray and the dead not staying down, Avry's healing powers are needed now more than ever.

Torn between love and loyalty, Avry must choose her path carefully. For the future of her world depends on her decision....

Headstrong, Stubborn is NOT admirable

So sick of a Avry being willing to die to save one random stranger knowing that by doing so her death will leave their entire world without a healer - not just once but repeatedly. That's not admirable - that's criminally negligent behavior.

Also, sick of her ALWAYS thinking she knows more about military tactics than the professionals and throwing temper tantrums and stamping off to do what she thinks needs to be done and AGAIN putting herself in danger to get her way and to Hell with the needs of incoming casualties or existing patients.

Avry: Spoiled, selfish, ignorant child.

Why, why, WHY do so many authors (FEMALE authors, no less!) so often create heroines like this. A woman can be strong without being a stubborn selfish pain-in-everyone's butt.

So many adversaries, I was on edge getting to this ending.

Avery is compelled to action by her abilities even knowing it can be fatal. Imagining how people live and die during pestilence have me growing in a better understanding of human nature. We are living through disasters daily now; this book was a good coping tool for me. I love Balin, wish I was more like him. Grateful I don't have to be.

Good story in the Series

This book wraps up the series and closes all the gaps. There was lots of action and excitement in the closing moments of the book.

This is an awesome team! I enjoy the stories written by this author and Gabra Zackman is gifted with the perfect story telling voice. I was not ready for the book to end! Now what is next?

Great story, disliked the voices

I should’ve stayed reading the book. Audible made it easier to multitask but my goodness the accents and nasal voice was not a match.. especially for kerrick. He is supposed to be a stoic sounding person but he sounds so nasally like a whiny complaining person, made me cringe every time he spoke instead of swoon lol

Good ending

I like the Poison Study series much better, but this was pretty good. The explanations of how the lilies work, rescuing this or that person, and thinking/believing someone is dead got a bit repetitive by this last book. As usual, Zackman's performance is really good.

A satisfying conclusion

This book was quite a bit darker than the first two and that made me enjoy it a bit less. My favorite line from the narrator was, “That filthy cannibal needs to die!” I just felt all the things: a rush of affection for the character saying it, agreement at the sentiment, humor at the stating of the obvious. This installment was a fulfilling ending to a truly epic narrative.
