About this listen
I take very little exception to the plethora of advice columns, TV advice psychologists, and theoretical books on this topic. What I do take exception to are those who quote and promote the latest polls, studies, and psychological findings as the bible on child-rearing.
For too many years, parents have followed some of these self-proclaimed gurus and, as a result, have robbed our children of the qualities of taking responsibility and the honor of honesty and hard work. I find this evidenced in and through the idea of blaming parents, terrible youthful home life, and some circumstances beyond the control of the individual.
These conditions are claimed to be the cause of all our individual failings and, in too many instances, crimes. When we are able to place the blame on someone or something outside of ourselves, it seems to exonerate us from any responsibility for our actions; this further perpetuates immature, irresponsible and immoral behavior.

Story
Parenting isn't rocket science, it's just brain surgery. And Dr. Joshua Straub has good news for you: You can do it! You don't need to do all the "right" things as a parent. Both science and the Bible show us that the most important thing we can provide for our kids is a place of emotional safety. In other words, the posture from which we parent matters infinitely more than the techniques of parenting. Emotional safety - more than any other factor - is scientifically linked to raising kids who live, love, and lead well.
